Sweater Nite 14

sincerest thanks to those who made time in their schedules to attend Sweater Nite 14, to those who made the concious decision to spend 4 or 5 hours out of the year to raise a glass and chat with an old friend, to those who were not afraid to donn a hockey sweater and risk public ridicule and to those who realize that a fire left unattended with soon extinguish

Great Cardinal

not sure if anyone has been following the stories the past few weeks about Timothy Cardinal Dolan , but this man has has done a great deal to restore my faith.......not faith in my religion, But faith in the Human Beings who persue a Religous life....i am not a big fan of the priesthood and it is no doubt that Priets, Nuns and Brothers are the biggest reason sooo many people turn away from the Catholic Church , but it is nice to know that some of them, like Cardinal Dolan are bona fide "Good People".....the story this week about the altar boy in Staen Island and his father with cancer is a real nice read.....i think Cardinal Dolan is perfect for NY...I hope he stays a long time.........and he drinks beer.

14

amidst the hockey glory and revelry of the past week....the anniv of the great Russia Victory, the anticipation of a bloodthirsty Ranger win over a heated rival, i made a sidetrip to the teardrop memorail in Bayonne and paid my respects....it made me think of one of the most Passionate Ranger fans i have ever met, "Coop" ...nobody loved his Rangers more than John Cooper.....R.I.P. Coop, gone but never forgotten

recollections of the KID

I was living on borrowed time….literally……Uncle Sam had a signed contract that stated he owned my soul for a period of four years…..I was on delayed entry into the United States Navy when Opening Day April 9th 1985 rolled around..i was down to 60 days of freedom before I was scheduled to begin my stint at Great Lakes Boot Camp on June 10th……..I KNEW this would be my last opening Day at Big Shea for quite some time…….so I had to make it count……..we chartered a Bus as always and loaded up the 1/4 Kegs from Teddy the Greeks Deli….there wasn't a coffin cooler big enough to house the amount of BEER we planned to consume that day , and so multiple Kegs and Red Solo Cups were the order of the day…

..1984 had been a surprisingly good year for our beloved Metropolitans….90 plus wins and we hung in the race until Sept……this of course was the pre-wild card era , and we were expecting a summers long dogfight with the Cubs and Cardinals for NL East Supremacy. In Honesty though , there was only one topic of conversation and focus that day, and that was the debut of our prized offseason acquisition of Gary Carter…….i'd be lying if I said I was 100% behind the deal…..being the cynic that I am , I lamented the departure of Hubie Brooks and Mike Fitzgerald…and I was skeptical of the BIG STAR Carter ( I hated the Messier deal too, and the G-men giving up too much and passing on Big Ben to get Eli….but that's me…..p.s. I still don’t like the carmelo deal, so that bodes well for the Knicks)…….anywho…..the parking lot was abuzz with Gary Carter Chatter……..with visions of pennants dancing in our soon to be drunk heads…..it was a bitter cold day in the parking lot and there was less animosity amongst the fans since the Rangers were NOT playin the Islanders in the playoffs ( as opposed to the prior few opening days).

I don't recall too many particulars from the game until the 9th inning ended tied with the Cardinals…..we were sitting in the upper tier behind 3rd base ( about 30 guys) and since the beer vendors had stopped serving it was time to head to the warm and friendly confines of the Bus…..where iced cold Budweiser and the timeless Bob Murphy awaited us….how great it was going to be to hear Murphs call of a dramatic extra inning win on opening day………we walked all the way down the left field line before entering the rotunda and taking the ramps down to street level…..as was par for the course since day one of Big Shea…the ganglike Chants of LETS GO METS echoed throughout……what a happy bunch of knuckleheads this breed of Met Fanatics were and still are…..i stepped off the blue and orange conga line to use the men's room….and when I came out I was with 2 good friends ( Tom Daly and Dano Woods)………we started back towards the ramps when Dales walked out to the field level and saw there were 2 outs in the top of the tenth……."Wanna Hang and watch the Mets get up ? I think carter is due up in the 10th" Daly asked and thankfully the cold wind must have subsided long enough for us to agree…….we walked to the front row of the Lodge, just above the auxiliary scoreboard in left and literally right next to the Foul Pole……we waited anxiously as the hated Neil Allen took his warm-up tosses to begin the 10th and rose to our feet with those who still remained when Gary Carter strode to the plate………Allen hung a curveball ( I think) and Gary connected….we watched it sail right past us and touchdown safely in the bullpen near the Circus like tent in the picnic area and I can honestly say I had Chills up and down my spine…….30k folks jumpin up and down like a pack of cheerleaders...the spark had been lit……belief had been restored…..you knew right then and there that THIS Guy was meant to play on Broadway…..and the Mets were now complete…..by now we all know the rest of story, the newspapers will chronicle the big hit against the Stros…and the "single" that started the rally in game 6…we all know how Gary died way too young , but that his legacy will live forever…….but for me, when I heard he was on his death bed , I thought of the beginning….his debut with the Mets….and I Thank God I was lucky enough to see it in person.....it was one of those memories that i will take to the GRAVE.

full sad recap to follow

certainly a brotherhood

These are the moments that define who we are.......where we have come from , and where we are headed.....the resiliency and determination of the New York Football Giants this past month and a half brought a tear to my eye and a chill to my spine. To have the good fortune to finally exhale and drink a case of beer with some good friends in the Kettle Black yesterday was the priceless cherry on top. kudos to our Jet brothers who chose not to wallow in the mire but rather come out , shake a hand, have a drink and join the party....although it must hurt immeasurably......i love the Mets and 86 was a blast, but as delighted as i was back then, i don't recall being "proud" of them......Hockey was my cross to bear and that 54 years curse was unbearable...i have exalted the members of that team into the Tom O'Dowd Hall of Fame and will never utter a disparaging word against any of them...i have named pets after these guys so as never to allow their names to fade from consciousness.....but alas hockey is a canadian game........football...as we know, eat, sleep and breath IS America's past time....the Super Bowl is the most important event of ANY year...as Americans we wear it on our sleeves, we are part of the games....we feel it when we win and we are crushed emotionally, mentally, physically when we run out of time....for we never loose.....I am Proud to be a New York Football Giant Fan....and I am Proud of this team.

Don't Give Up the Ship

well, on New Years eve i added this flag to the pole as both a message to the Giants but also my neighbors and the country at large....DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP......as difficult as the road ahead may appear....don't quit......it is the rally cry of the United States Navy and should be the motto of our nation during these dark economic times.......the flag was supposed to grace the pole for an extended weekend....but of course she remains there today and flap proudly in the breeze this evening at 6:29 and beyond.....GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GIANTS.......ALL IN.....never give up the ship.

BC alum

wow.....what a fukin typical politician corey schneider is....totally twists the situation and attacks Tim Thomas as being un-american and unworthy of representing Team USA ( read below). when in reality it is Tim Thomas love of Country that has him so angry with the political mess in D.C. .......there are plenty of Patriots that still love this country but refuse to worship at the blackhaus alter....refuse to hold elected officials on some deity.....congress, the senate and the commander in spook may think they are the nobles and the masses are blind sheep like corey schneider, but not all of us have drunk the cool-aid....or in this case ...would it be ripple ??

Corey schneider..Boston College Alum.....Go FUK yerself.....and your canuck boyfriend.

Even when it comes to off-the-ice decisions, Vancouver Canucks goalies seem to love giving Tim Thomas a hard time.
No, it wasn't Robert Luongo opening his mouth this time around, but rather Cory Schneider telling Thomas how he should have handled the White House situation.
"I have no problem with his personal beliefs, but [Thomas] can suck it up for an hour, say, 'hi,' and be with the team, and avoid all of this," Schneider told The Province.
Schneider -- a Marblehead, Mass., native and Boston College alum that has made 16 starts this season -- said he thinks Thomas should be more appreciative of the opportunities he's been given by playing in the United States.
"Respect the [presidency]," Schneider said. "He plays for Team USA and he has no problem making millions of dollars in the USA, but he can't go say 'hi' to the President? You get a lot of benefits living in the U.S. and he should have a little bit of respect for that.
"It's just the timing," he added. "It's poor timing. It's about putting your own agenda aside to do something with the team whether you like the guy or not."
Luongo, who made headlines during the 2011 Stanley Cup after saying the Game 5 game-winner against the B's would have been an "easy save" for him, refused to comment on Thomas' decision not to visit the White House.

open invite

Tim Thomas !.....you are always welcome at Sweater Nite...

Bruins goalie Thomas declines White House visit for political reasons

January 17, 2012: Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas reacts after giving up a goal to Tampa Bay Lightning center Dominic Moore during the third period of an NHL hockey game in Tampa, Fla.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Boston Bruins' star goaltender Tim Thomas skipped Monday's White House visit by the Stanley Cup champions due to political differences with President Barack Obama.
Thomas, a Flint, Mich., native and one of only two American players on the Bruins' Stanley Cup roster last season, was the only Boston player to decline the invitation.
"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People," Thomas said in a statement.
"This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government," he wrote.
"Because I believe this, today (Monday) I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL."

arthurs

went to arthurs last night....had a fantastic time as always, but things have changed....first clue was that the dining room was not packed or very crowded at all...the price of the steak has risen to $28 and the shrimp cocktail is up to $10...but the beeeere still comes in 32 oz mugs (no coors light on tap) not sure what they charged...don't really care either....it was cold......steak and potatos were still good....but you have to ask for the hot peppers and now the cold slaw is a side order, not free......but if you go with a nice group, like we did last night, it is still a ton of fun...

Monday, January 09, 2012

on to Lambau

lets go G-Men........very nice victory yesterday, and now a rematch with the vaunted Packers of Green Bay....it will take a total team effort, mistake free and our best of the season, BUT it CAN happen....

super bowl

well hopefully i am putting a HEX on these two teams, and i sincerely hope i am wrong or I don't have the PULSE of the NFL playoffs this year.....but i fear the super bowl will be between Norleans and Baltimore......again , these are the 2 teams i HATE the most in this post season, so any other combo would be acceptable...

really can't believe how lousy the AFC is....this really could have been the J E T S year if they only could have beaten the Jints.....denver stinks, the steelers are walking wounded....the Texans have a basketball player for a QB....the bengals are now and will forever be the bengals......new england couldn't keep bishop ford out of the end zone and flacco and the ravens are beatable........oh poor Rex must be beside himself.

the NFC is stocked.....Falcons are solid if not flamboyant...Detroit has an explosice offense and their defense is capable of some big plays...the Niners are tough and dont make a lot of mistakes....New Orleans is loaded, the packers may be the best team in the past 25 years...and the Jints.....well they CAN Beat anyone and they CAN loose to anyone...depends on which G-Men show up....but you have to like the fact that the D Line is coming together at the right time, and a healthy pass rush can cover up a lot of weaknesses at LB and the secondary....the offense is as good as anyone else....you can't spell elite without ELI ....and you cant spell illegal immigration green card without Sanchize....bwaaaa haa haa

forgive my giddiness....but it is an absolute pleasure to start the playoffs without the Eagles, Cowboys, or Jets polluting the airwaves........sorry duff, but rex is tooo much to bare.

interesting news

this blip was taken from Kerouac.Com it appears the long awaited release of the On The Road movie has been announced....well in France anyway.

1). MARK MAY 23, 2012 ON YOUR CALENDAR
The internet websites are abuzz with the news that came via a tweet yesterday from the French Film Production Company MK2. They announced the French Release of OTR the movie will be May 23rd. Now, we have no inside info but we can read a calendar as well as anyone and the Cannes Film Festival is May 16 - May 27. Hmmm. And Walter Salles has a long history at Cannes with a number of his films as well as an OTR trailer at the 2011 festival. Double hmmmm. And MK2 is a French company. Triple hmmmmm.

the little ten

another year....and once again college football is exposed for the farce that it is...another four months of exaggerated rankings and the pumping up of the big ten , when we all know the conf is sub par at best.....or quite honestly, they suck....but if you have a TV contract with ABC\ESPN your not allowed to SUCK...or better yet....your not allowed to admit in public that they suck......and the glaring conflict of interest in the "AP" Polls makes its all silly......i have beaten this drum before...but lets go over it one more time.......if you are a sportswriter for any newspaper in the midwest and you are trying to get on the national stage, the fastest way to have your stories circulated to a wider audience is to cover a national story.....so if your assigned to cover the big ten for a paper in Grand Rapids or Detroit or Columbus or Altoona or anywhere in the wide grasp of big ten country in the middle of America.....are you going to vote your conscious and admit that the Big Ten sucks and thus dismissing the national attention of your weekly column OR is it better suited for you to Vote Ohio St #1 , Whisky #3 , Michigan # 5 and so on and so on ??? ............and your never gonna let TCU, BOISE and those other guys get on the national stage....it can only hurt your importance.

for the record , the big Ten stepped it up this year in the Bowls going 3-6 (michigan on deck tonight)......with wins over Western Michigan and UCLA amongst the 3 wins and the Spartans ( who are decent) squeaked one out over Goergia.

I can hear Brent Musburger already pumping up Ohio St and Urban Meyer...coming off a 7 loss season and probably already ranked in the top 10 for next year.....and the beat goes on.

*****DISCLAIMER NOTE ********
although i often times will doctor a story to make it more interesting....I did not have to change a single word on this one....even I can't make this up.

MIAMI -- Santonio Holmes quit on his teammates. They saw it in his eyes, his body language, and they called him out in the huddle, leading to an ugly exchange between him and right tackle Wayne Hunter.

With one last chance to save their season, Holmes turned Tone Time into Groan Time. The New York Jets’' bust of a season ended with an on-the-field meltdown in the huddle, with players yelling and Holmes having to be restrained from going after Hunter.

This was ugly and embarrassing, even by Jets standards. Holmes was benched for the final two-plus minutes of their 19-17 loss Sunday to the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium -- one last example of a chemistry experiment gone bad.

"Is it disturbing? It’s been disturbing for a while," guard Brandon Moore said later at his locker, suggesting that dissension has been rearing its ugly head for a lot longer than one bad afternoon in the Florida sunshine.

Pressed, Moore finally said, "I don’t have anything more to say about Santonio."

He said plenty. Other teammates did, too, especially the most respected player in the locker room, future Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, who unloaded on Holmes. He basically said that Holmes -- a captain, for crying out loud -- shut it down, mentally.

If the U.S. Army had captains like Holmes, we'’d all be speaking Japanese.

Turns out the Jets have a lot more to worry about this offseason than fixing Mark Sanchez and finding a replacement for offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who almost certainly will be fired or demoted. They have a serious locker-room issue -- or maybe it’s just a Holmes issue.

"Let me just say there were some guys in the huddle that were unhappy with Tone’'s demeanor," Tomlinson said. "When you have a group of guys fighting their butts off and one guy, for whatever reason, their demeanors not with them, you’'re going to get some guys to say something to him and tell him how they feel. That’'s what you got today."

Tomlinson wasn’'t finished.

"It'’s tough for guys to follow a captain that kind of behaves in that manner," he said. "The worst thing that can happen is when teammates start to question your passion. In that huddle, that’'s what you saw. Guys looked at his eyes and he didn’'t have fire in his eyes. Guys were turned off by that. … It was definitely boiling at that point. Guys had had enough."

In the culture of an NFL locker room, it doesn'’t get more stinging than that. Tomlinson'’s words weren'’t that different from what Moore said in October, when he questioned Holmes'’ leadership. That came in response to Holmes’' criticisms of the offensive line. The tension subsided for a couple of months -- winning helped -- but it was always there, simmering.

Let’s be honest: The Jets (8-8) played a horrible game and, even if Holmes had been in the lineup, they probably wouldn'’t have overcome a nine-point deficit in the final 2½ minutes. But that'’s not the point. The point is, Holmes bailed on his teammates at a time when they needed unity.

as promised

apparently left leaning CBS decided to edit this out of the 60 minutes episode last sunday......even they were embarassed by this delusional , condescending prick.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, we’re not done yet. I’ve got five more years of stuff to do. But not only saving this country from a great depression. Not only saving the auto industry. But putting in place a system in which we’re gonna start lowering health care costs and you’re never gonna go bankrupt because you get sick or somebody in your family gets sick. Making sure that we have reformed the financial system, so we never again have taxpayer-funded bailouts, and the system is more stable and secure. Making sure that we’ve got millions of kids out here who are able to go to college because we’ve expanded student loans and made college more affordable. Ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Decimating al Qaeda, including Bin Laden being taken off the field. Restoring America’s respect around the world.

Merry Christmas

since I am well aware that at least one of the blog followers is a J E T S fan, I thought i should offer one and all a Very Merry Christmas now......cause all bets are OFF after kick-off.........i also have a very disturbing quote from the commander in chief...but I dont want to spoil anyones Christmas....so I will repost that on Monday....delusionally frightening stuff...

dissapointing

the memorial.....although visually pleasing.....was an overall dissapointment.......security was disgraceful.....i was made to feel like a common criminal or terrorist, what should have been a reflective day , instead evoked anger....the final salt in the wound was that the Northeast Corner of the 1 WTC footprint was roped off because of wind......the one piece of real estate i had a strong desire to return to was off limits......tourists muggin it up for photo ops turned my stomach and i left after only four or five minutes......very disaapointing.

back ta zero

Youre not the only one
With mixed emotions
Youre not the only ship
Adrift on this ocean
Youre not the only one
That's feeling lonesome
Youre not the only one
With mixed emotions (jagger~richards)

and so it is indeed with mixed emotions that i return to the scene of the crime after 10 years , three months and a few days....today i will ( i think) visit the memorial at the former site of the world trade center.....although i have been downtown and on the perimiter these past ten years, i have not had the oppurtunity to return to the footprints of 1 world trade . i ahve a pass for a 10:30 visit and i hope to follow through on it and pay my respects. ( although this whole govt police state and assigned time slots makes me sick to my stomach, i will leave my grievances against LMDC aside for today and try to keep my angst in check).

follow that up with an 11:45 reservation for a steak in Mark Josephs and an afternoon of bar-hopping / reminiscing in the financial district and we have ourselves quite a friday......

i will check back in tomorrow with a full report.

no more tailgating

mark my words.....the nfl will use the recent beating of a jet fan in the Giant Stadium parking lot to eventually ban alcohol consumption in the parking lots before games......impossible ?? just wait.

The truth is it kills these teams to know that the fans can pack coolers and drink beer for 5 hours before kickoff and aside from the $25 parking fine, they don't see a dime.....they will use the violence to their advantage and ban booze in the lots......

then to show that their good eggs, and care about the fans, they will open the doors to the stadium 3 or 4 hours before the game....and they will sell you ALL THE BOOZE you can afford....but they will justify that by saying its regulated and we don't serve intoxicated people....this will protect all the fans and line the owners pockets.....come in and tailgate at the seats with $9 beers and $10 greasy hamburgers.

sounds crazy ? fans will revolt ? nobody will go to the games ? blah, blah, blah.......i hope i am wrong , but i know i am not.......

Elena Kagan & obamacare

it is uncomprehensible to imagine elena kagan sitting their with a straight face and NOT recuseing herself from the supreme court hearings on the constitutionality of certain parts of obamacare. As a member of the obama administration , kagan was involved in planning the legal defense of the law , and now we are supposed to believe she is going to listen to the arguments unbiased ? this is the only reason barry hussein appointed her to the bench , and yet we never even hear the debate on TV......too wound up over lamar and chloe getting traded to dallas i suppose.

the mighty squids were left for dead after getting crushed by ND in south bend a few weeks.....dropping to 2-6 and seeing their 9th straight bowl appearance in serious jeapordy.....but alas they have won 2 in a row and if the can beat San Jose State on the road today it will bring them back to 5-6 with 1 game to play.......and who should be in a position to prevent that .500 record and a bowl bid?.....ARMY! of course.......could make for some interesting side bars when these foes take to the pitch @ Fedex field.........there is the business of SJ St first.....4:00 start on ESPN3 ...whatever the heck that channel is.

so the St. Louie Cardinals took their World Series Trophy to the Rams Vs Saints Game and lo and behold the winless Spagnolas notch their first victory over the mighty invaders from N~orlens......

Last Night, Cornball Larusa donned a Blues Sweater and took the trophy to the Checker Dome ( remember that arena) and inspired the blue Notes to rise up and beat the hated and heavily favored Canuckleheads de los vancoooover.

it's in that spirit of contagious victory that i am going to monmouth Park for the breeders and hope that Clancy's good fortune will ruboff on me and I actually hit a few races.......alas, i will be accompanied by the Great Cooler...the Jinx of Higgins.....it will be a battle of wills.....does Clancy force us to raise our game and pick a few winners......OR....more likely......Do we drag Dermott down to the muck and mire and loosing on photo finishes, tossed Jockeys and stewards inquiries....? time will tell

back in a few hours with my picks of the day.

John Dowd is a two-time Academic All-American

Oct. 25, 2011
For the seventh year in a row, the United States Naval Academy is one of the top schools in the country for graduating NCAA student-athletes.

Navy graduated 100 percent of its student-athletes in six of the 20 NCAA sports reported on and averaged 96 percent for student-athletes in all sports. Navy’s overall graduation success rate of 96 percent was tied for fourth among all schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision and was the best among the three Service Academies. The national average for NCAA Division I student-athletes is 80 percent. The graduation success rate measures those student-athletes that were enrolled from 2001-04 and graduated within six years.

"Our student-athletes continually strive to set the standard on the playing fields, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall," said Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. "The support and encouragement they receive through the Commandant and his staff and the academic dean and all of our outstanding professors and instructors is extraordinary and provides tremendous motivation to be successful morally, mentally and physically. Our midshipmen clearly define the true meaning of student-athlete."

Highest Graduation Rates (All Sports/FBS Schools Only)
1. Notre Dame-99%
2. Duke-97%
Boston College-97%
4. Navy-96%
Northwestern-96%

a whopping 25% of NYC high school graduates are actually prepared for collegiate level education in their freshman year......obviously we need to raise taxes, throw a few more billion at the problem, make smaller classrooms, blah, b;ah, b;ah.......and the UFT is laughin all the way to the bank because all of their contractual obligations are driven by graduation rate......CHECK !

sorry eggroll....it's a bad month for you guys on the blog....ever since i saw that photo in the NY Times of you and Rqandi Weingarten manning the soup line in zuccotti park, i couldn't resist.

eggroll threats

Honorable eggroll is beside himself with anger over recent bloggin by yours truly, he called me at 3:00 a.m. ranting and raving like a madman, or a higgins.....about the unfair treatement i have offerded the teachers of this nation.....if i didn't know better i would have surmised that Das Strovika hand ended his two decade old boycott of Barley Wine Hopps and friends.....i told him, that like the Great Goofer pat Moran, I am binded by a strong urge to get the truth out....and a desire to go back to McSorleys and order 18 lights and 18 darks please....

3) thank God it wasn't Dylan.....when I first saw moamar being dragged through the streets with a bullet in his head I thought it was Bob.
4)we hated him......we forgave him ( strange)....we hated him again.....we killed him......boy are we a fucked up nation...
5) this new pack of camel fukers that are in charge hate us just as much , if not more than moamar....BUT they will take our $$$.....so nice to see hillary hangin with students in tripoli, telling tem that america is with you.....I AIN'T with THEM ...

weep no more....

the short lived life of CLUB GATO has come to an end, a dark day in our history, but we strive and hope to rebuild a better place to share a cocktail, a laugh and a tune....more to come....good night irene.

occupy college campus

you want to RAGE against something.....don't blame the banks that were virtually obligated to grant you those student loans or else be branded racist.....blame your parents for co-signing your future over to the banks....blame your high school guidance counselers for not suggesting less costly alternatives....blames the teachers and professors who command ridiculous salaries and send the costs of higher education soaring.......maybe Columbia,Harvard and all their high prices cousins are not for everyone.....maybe , just maybe some of these kids should have taken a part time job and went to Community College at Night to get a degree......or maybe those who live within their financial means should pay more for everything so we can forgive your student loans.

The amount of student loans taken out last year crossed
the $100 billion mark for the first time and total loans outstanding will exceed
$1 trillion for the first time this year. Americans now owe more on student
loans than on credit cards, reports the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
Students are borrowing twice what they did a decade ago
after adjusting for inflation, the College Board reports. Total outstanding debt
has doubled in the past five years a sharp contrast to consumers reducing
what's owed on home loans and credit cards.Taxpayers and other lenders have little risk of losing
money on the loans, unlike mortgages made during the real estate bubble.
Congress has given the lenders, the government included, broad collection
powers, far greater than those of mortgage or credit card lenders. The debt
can't be shed in bankruptcy
>The credit risk falls on young people who will start
adult life deeper in debt, a burden that could place a drag on the economy in
the future.
Students who borrow too much end up delaying life-cycle
events such as buying a car, buying a home, getting married (and) having
children," says Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of FinAid.org.
"It's going to create a generation of wage slavery," says
Nick Pardini, a Villanova University graduate student in finance who has warned
on a blog for investors that student loans are the next credit bubble — with
borrowers, rather than lenders, as the losers

Full-time undergraduate students borrowed an average
$4,963 in 2010, up 63% from a decade earlier after adjusting for inflation, the
College Board reports. What's happening
The portion of borrowers in
default more than nine months behind on payments rose from 6.7% in 2007 to
8.8% in 2009, according to the most recent federal data.

don't look now

but my Yellow Jackets of Ga Tech and the Fightin Illini are both 6-0 .......could this be the year of an ALL CAT BCS ????

side note.....although the allure of winning the big East and punchin a BCS ticket is tempting....I hope the Midshipmen of Navy decline the offer.

the protests

so the United Federation of Teachers is backing the Occupy Wall Street protesters.....which is interesting...because one of the demands of the quazi beatnik-trust fund scumbags is that they and all of the american youth receive free education.........WHY ? should a young American graduate from college with 120K in debit ?? it's not fair to start out adult life saddled with such enormous debt........well, maybe I am too stupid to understand....I am not a college grad after all.....But Maybe if the UFT and their brethren weren't commanding such ridiculous salaries for a few hours of work a few months out of the year the Universities wouldn't have to charge anywhere from 30 to 50K a year to learn how to hate your country, disrepect your military and worship Iran.......maybe if the freako lesbo self loathsome creep randi weingarten would take a stand and offer their teaching skills free of charge as an alternative to Gih Priced colleges ...these kids would have a fightin chance......maybe if they werent in bloombergs office every 2 years demandng pay increases and pension increases and smaller classrooms etc etc .....maybe our taxes wouldnt be suffocating the country.....i'm just askin.......in protest , i will not even use spellcheck on this post.......who needs teachers when we have spell check and big brother Barry to tell us right from wrong.

Honorable Uncle Eggroll...aka Eggie....aka Strovika....aka DasDas has made it known to the masses that if the Brew Crew Meets the Tigres De DetRIOT in a thirst quenching world seriously ridiculous that he will come out of retirement and quaff down a multitude of Meister Brau.......when reached for confirmation the eggmeister said " Only NATE more wins to go"

Wall Street Protests

2 quick hits cause i have a train to catch.

First....i find it funny that the unions joined the protests against wall street yesterday.....i know for a fact that every memeber of my staff would give me their 2 week notice in a second if there were ever able to get a UNION job....there are no pensions in my firm, we have always contributed significantly to our own health insurance and we can be let go or told to move out of state in the drop of a hat...maybe the protestors should look in the mirror.

Secondly.....nobody in the financial world actually works on wall street or lower manhattan anymore...in case these snot nosed kids missed it, the firms were all taxed into submission or murdered in a terrorist attack....wall street itself is all UNION BUILT condos......go to North Carolina or Fla or Texas if you want to protest brokerage firms you assholes.......or maybe you just want attention.

dancing like a witch doctor is still ok

so if you read it in the boxscore, your mind would conjure up a vision of Navy QB Kris Proctor dancin like a president in the end zone....tossin the football into the upper Deck and screaming "lookatme lookatme lookatme"......but the truth is far from that......make no mistake about it...i am NOT excusing him....his penalty cost us the game, and it is NOT the Navy way....but it was also quite tame (story below)......this is a rival game vs Air Force.....Navy trailed 21-3 at home and rallied back to force OT....Proctor barrels into the endzone for the go ahead touchdown, emotions are flaring in, he doesnt spike the ball....he doesn't do a dance, he doesn't throw a punch or remove his helmet, ...."He Says something"...and the Back Judge ?? is pretty sure it was #2............ok then.

After Kriss Proctor scored a one-yard touchdown in overtime to put Navy up 34-28, Proctor was flagged by back judge David Vaughan of the Big 12 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Navy was penalized 15 yards and then Air Force blocked Jon Teague's extra point.

Air Force scored on a Tim Jefferson one-yard run and Parker Herrington gave Air Force the win when he made the extra-point.

After the game Proctor was asked what he said.

"Some guy got in my way and I told him to move explicitly and he called it."

After the game the head referee, Mike Defee, talked to pool reporter Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times.

Q: What exactly was the specific call on that? What happened?

Mike Defee: The Navy player got in the face of an Air Force player right after the play.

Q: And which player was that?

Mike Defee: I think it was No. 2.

Q: And which official called it?

Mike Defee: It was the black judge.

did i say palastine ?

so last year the emperor and chief stood before the un , wagged his finger and declared the that this year we would be celebrating a new member of the international community.....palastine..........he went on to publicly attack our Israeli allies and "matter of factly" stated that the peace accord must begin with a return to the pre 1967 borders......he criticized Israel for building settlements for their people on the their own land ( won in a war, just like the continental United States were taken away from King George in a war) and have the audacity to dream of a day when Israel was allowed to exist.

it sounded good.....was quite the sound bite that the liberal news ate for breakfast and it meant fukin squat.

This week the spoonjiah is again wagging his finger, this time mocking palastine for requesting statehood and recognition from the un , lecturing us all that peace can only come from within, not from some silly un acknowledgement...."if it did, it would be done already" he smirked and laughed.......oh allah, he is sooo smart and aren't we lucky he shares his insight with us pleebs.......he then went on to pat himself on the back for the UN lead forces that toppled khadaffy....but he forgot to mention our good friends in egypt, who were also kicked to the curb...slipped his mind.....he forgot to mention Hillary's friend that "great Reformer" in syria, who continues to slaughter his opposition by the bushel.....slipped his mind.....and he forgot to mention our dear cousins the saudis...who promised a 200 million dollar loan to palastine to furthur (not bob weir) their statehood plans.......a mind is a terrible thing to waste mister president.

i am waiting for him to declare that the official language is now sweedish and that underwear should be worn on the outside........anyday now

there used to be a bar room here...

Wake of the Flood.

Sad Day

yesterday was an extremely sad day at 42 edgewood ave, along with thousands of water logged photos, yearbooks, programs, keepsakes and all that had to be hauled to the curb for garbage pickup, the love seat that was the first piece of furniture that Val i bought together, and saddest of all was the bed in the guest room off Club Gato...the bed was the resting place of more A List Celebs than the Lincoln Bedroom in the White House....countless friends ,family and pets slept in that bed over the past ten years...and now it lies at the end of the car port waiting for the sanmen to take her away.
