strange occurrences in the desert.....latest, hotest rumor has the owner of the Utah Jazz reaching out to the NHL about buying the Coyotes and moving them to the Great Salt Lake.....the arena the Jazz play in can only seat approx 14,000 fans for Hockey, and obviously that is a NO GO......BUT.....apparently Salt Lake City is preparing a bid to host the Olympics in 2030 or 2034 and at the center of that push is a New arena that could serve as a state of art facility bor both the Jazz and the Yotes....and on the plus side the players could have as many wives as they wish........serious side note......like when Archie Bunker was on a diet and Edith told him he could only have 1 Cusini ( zucchini) with his dinner...and Archie said "Why the hell would i want more" ....very true Archie.....and so any man that engages in polygamy should also be subject to a psyche evaluation.

this afternoon is probably the last of the day games, and i will happily pack a cooler and settle into the yard for the 3:00 puck drop of game 2 between the Stars of Dallas and Knights of Vegas.

I was watching TV Friday night in the yard.....sound off and Rock n Roll on the stereo.....in fairness i was a good 12 pack into the evening , but a commercial came on the TV and suddenly my stomach was in my throat.....it was an ad for Delta Airlines and a young professional black female (ultimate oxymoron) was on a city street and she looks up to the sky and sees a Jumbo Jet flying above and between a few high rise buildings.....it was supposed to be inspiration to travel i guess.....but it was a kick to the groin for me......the hair on my neck stood up and my heart began to race.....and when i finally calmed down i thought about all the people in shoes worse than mine....and i hope they either didn't see the ad or maybe it didn't have the same impact on them....but it changed my night for the worse and my mood became darker....i soon therafter shut it down and went in for the night......i can't help think of someone 20 something coksucka sittin in a board room and patting themselves on the back for an ad with such dramatic imaging......and if they do know what they were doing, i hope they die a painful death.

Bud Light ? they still don't seem to get it.....or refuse to address it.....the ad with the Tranny was a bad move BUT the real damage was when Alissa Heinerscheid did a follow up interview and explained that Bud Lights fan base, the people that made it the #1 selling beer in America for half a century, were a bunch of Frat Boys playing Beer pong and their product was dying a low death....she had nothing but disdain for their loyal customers.....and then Inbev let her take a leave of absence instead of firing her.

Imagine if you will if Nike ran an ad with the Oath Keepers lacing up their Air Jordans and getting ready for a rally.....and then the ad exec said our brand has been hijacked by Black teens who kill each other in the projects for our stupid sneakers.....we needed to do something fast and break away from all these juvenile delinquents and over paid athletes............well, then you might see a boycott similar to the one Inbev is enjoying.

the MTA held a big press conf to showcase new turnstiles that will address fair evasion......I will take off my cynical hat for a moment and say Bravo.....fare evasion is costing over 500 million a year, and thats probably a conservative number....it also is a step in the right direction in reestablishing a system of Rules that the city is currently lacking. the new turnstiles have higher plexiglass doors that only open to allow a single person to pass through.....and if someone tries to piggyback off the paying customer a loud alarm will sound.......GREAT.....time to put my hat back on.......BUT what happens next will determine the future of this once great city.......Unless you staff these stations with Police that arrest the offenders, unless you have prosecutors who are willing to try these cases for repeat offenders , unless you have judges willing to sentence these miscreants to time in jail, unless you build enough jails to house the scum and unless you turn these prisons into penal colonies and not Summer camps....NOTHING will ever change.

Well the Coyotes of Arizona seem to have quite a few ways to get out of here. The other day I mentioned Houston and Quebec as two most probable landing spots for these desert dogs......but now two more formidable options have tossed their hats into the ring at the feet of the Wile E. Coyotes .

Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes tweeted out that Kansas City Coyotes has a nice ring to it , in an attempt to have the hockey club at least look into moving to the land of Royals and Chiefs.

And Ned Lamont, the Gov of CT made a personal appeal to Gary Bettman to remind the league that the city of Hartford is still trying to fill the void left by the departure of the Whalers. It would cost a lot of money to renovate the Civic Center, but with Quinnipiac the reigning NCAA Ice Hockey Champions, you can probably count on a few Frozen Fours and Regional bids if they do bring the old arena up to speed.

As i said , this is a very good young team......and they have 2 draft picks in the top 12 of this years draft....which scouts say is the most loaded NHL draft in 25 years. ( if you are keeping score at home, this will be the 4th straight year the Iceladies do NOT have a first rd pick......Lou Lamerillo...the gift that keeps giving.)

In other Hockey news the Coyotes are staring a whole through their scrambled eggs...the city of Tempe has rejected their plans to build a permanent home . Currently they are playing at the 6,000 seat stadium of Arizona State, and seem to be running out of options in the state....they have worn out welcomes in Glendale, Pheonix and now Tempe......Houston is the morning line favorite to land the team , although Quebec is also a consideration.......it's a shame Arizona doesn't want them....they are a really good, young , up and coming team that are destined for greatness...Clayton Keller is an emerging star and the team is loaded with draft picks and prospects.....whomever lures this team is getting a bargain. I may even have to pay homage and donn a Captain Coyote Jeremy Roenick throwback Acid trip Jersey next year.

Out west Dallas and Vegas promises to be a great series........i think the Stars have a slight edge, but in fairness i have watched more of their games than i have the Knights, so my objectivity may be called into question......oh well , it;s Friday...time for a Beer....take it away Bob.

a magical day this past sunday in a section of the Borough of Churches that i didn't think i would ever revisit. On the quiet streets of Mill Basin, an absolute respite in the heart of the jungle that is known as Flatbush, lies el Carib. This past weekend a lifetime of friends and golden memories were on display to celebrate , and to me the time seemed to stand still....i was amazed everytime i looked at my watch how early it was.......some parties fly by and you awake and wonder if they even happened......but Sunday unfolded in glorious slow motion. As if in a dream it felt as though everyone was delighted to be there and nobody wanted the party to end. A surprise 30th anniversary for two great friends, brought what's left of the old neighborhood together for a memorable afternoon. I have often droned on in my sweater letters about stopping to appreciate the simple days and the time spent with friends, Sunday i just stood in the back of the catering hall for a few moments and allowed my Brain to take it all in, so many smiling, laughing faces from our past-present-future........you pinch yourself and say , if it is but a dream , i do not want to wake up.

 i must say recent events have taken some of the charm and fun OFF the Kentucky Derby, but a tradition is a tradition....no matter how silly.

Earlys this morning I heard the SUN THUNDER and i knew it was time to RAISE CAIN, even if it wasn't to REINCARNATE the ANGEL OF EMPIRE but rather to DISARM old MAGE. KING RUSSELL said let's play this CONFIDENCE GAME , after all she's no MANDARIN HERO, more like a DERMA SOTOGAKE and i could care less what her FORTE is. This is a public service announcement for the Band called GOOSE. A group of guys from Norwalk Ct that formed a band about 8 years ago. In the spirit of the Grateful Dead and Phish but a much faster Jam band. I watched one of their concerts on youtube the other day from The Capitol Theatre in March of this year and was blown away. They have not yet reached prime time and in this current environment, maybe they never will. They are Playing the Summer Stage @ the Stone Pony in July and i am going to do my best to check them out live. anyway if your looking for some new music with older familiar roots, check them out.

Republicans are catching heat for spending time passing a bill in Congress defending Womens sports, the bill will not pass the Senate and if by chance it did the POTUS has vowed to veto.....so why bother ? is it  a cheap ploy to garner the female vote?  i say no.....this is a serious problem that has to nipped in the BUTT.

It's not happening in the WNBA ....why is that ?  are we supposed to believe there is not 1 guy out there who played D1 ball but wasn't good enough for the NBA,  that  he wouldn't be willing to say he identifies as a female to sign a million dollar contract with the Las Vegas Aces , avg 50 points a game dunking over girls and win a few championships? Obviously the league is not allowing this to happen , but why ? what happened to Good for goose , good for the Gooser ?

what about FIFA , would the Womens World Cup be Okay if Lionel Mesi's lil brother said he likes to party with Bud Light and wear a sports bra and then sign a big contract to play for the Iceland Ladies team to lead them to the Cup?

Times have changed since Bobby Ace sang of the pilgrimage west...The Swingin A's are leaving the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum and relocating to the Vegas strip. I stand behind them 100%, but it still hurts. So Many World Series and Great AFC Playoff games on this hallowed piece of land. Catfish, Rudi & Co were the great dynasty of the early 1970's......while The Snake and John Madden were stomping on the sidelines of the NFL. The Reggie Blasts, the Sea of Hands, # straight World Series titles and the roughing the passer penalty, The Green & Gold and the Silver & Black.....The moustaches and facial Hair, the nicknames and all the crazy fans, the A's drum corps, The black hole and the bed sheets painted with slogans to unnerve the opponents. I will miss Oakland games but i can not fault either team for leaving 

Truth is the state of California is in trouble.......especially Northern California....the 49ers moved to Santa Clara (approx 45 miles south) the Raiders and now the A's have left the state entirely. The Warriors were on life support before they drafted Steph Curry....once he's gone we will see what kind of support they get. The Sharks are down in San Jose...this year the once proud franchise was bottom of the league in total attendance by volume and by % of capacity. (avg less than 14,000 a game and below80% of the shark Tank). The SF Giants have a beautiful stadium on the water downtown and are surviving in the middle of the pack for MLB attendance.....but as tech layoffs continue and businesses leave , how long will that continue ?

I think their is naive belief that all you have to do in places like manhattan is turn office space into housing to solve the commercial real estate crisis that is looming. I could not disagree more.

A city is only a city because of the business community. If ABC Corp builds a building in the middle of nowhere and hires 10,000 workers at fare salary what happens next? 

Housing pops up because the workers want to live as close to the office as possible.

Restaurants, Bars, Coffee shops open in and around the office building to service the 10,000 workers.

Schools are needed for the children of the new 10,000 workers.

Barber Shops, Dry cleaning and retail stores open to keep the professional workforce looking the part.

10,000 people making a fare wage have some disposable income......Movie Theatres, Bowing alleys, Concert Venues, Museums, Sports arenas will follow.

Other businesses see what ABC corp has done and they decide to relocate to the once desolate area.

As more workers pour into the location, housing will expand in all 4 directions..spurring the need for Transit options.

now we have a thriving community. 

NOW, take ABC out of the equation.....they move........it's like taking the Heart out of a Giant....it may not drop to its knees over night, but in time it will crumble.....and all the amenities that the Business community supports with shrivel and die on the vine. the Tax base goes away, the bars & restaurants stay closed until the evenings, Transit runs empty trains and busses, and that all important VIBE of living in the city dies too. After a while that thriving Community is nothing more than Starrett City.....a collection of apartment buildings, no nightlife, no buzz. 

I think converting a small portion of the buildings into housing is feasible....but in time, the only people that will want to live in Manhattan are the people that Work in Manhattan....and if more and more businesses decide they don't need the crime, high taxes and problems that come with the Big City....well, step by step all the amenities and excitement will go away too.

a little late , but here are my hockey prognostications for the first round.

I have been saying since Christmas that i thought the bruins were too ol and not that really as good as their record. I am not sure if Florida has ever recovered since losing Coach Quinville last year but I Think the Panthers find a way in round 1.

I think Tampa has the heart of a Champion and has at least one more series win in the old war horse ...and Toronto is Toronto.

I am cautiously optimistic about the Blueshirts and i do think our extensive playoff experience and better goaltending will prevail..

I hope and expect that  Carolina eventually find a way to win a road playoff game and defeat the fishstix.

out west.....The Jets are my blue plate special to upset Vegas.

The Wild found a way all year when counted out, BUT i think Dallas is too strong.

The Lanche are defending Champs and they will not bow out in the first round.....although i would enjoy seeing the Kraken turned loose.

and Edmonton has to and will find a way to beat their nemesis Kings

i also predict the Mets will take 2 out of 3 verse the Dodgers and Mad Max will get thrown out for using Rosin....

brief summarization:  in 2004 the FDA approved a drug (Mifepristone) for use in abortions. The state of Texas has basically outlawed abortions, so Texas residents were ordering Mifepristone from neighboring states . A Christian group is suing to have the FDA approval reversed and a Christian Judge has sided with the plaintiffs. An 1800's law the prohibited abortion material of any kind being send via US mail was sighted as cause. They also have stated that there are serious side effects from taking the drug, but there no women victims taking part in the suit. 

I am in favor of States rights, but i think this Texas Judge is wrong. If the Texas State legislature votes to outlaw the drug and thus establishes a law against trafficking the drug in state....OK.

But i do not want to live in a country where a Religious Judge can overrule the Federal Govt and enforce his or her own version of morality on the rest of us.......let's not forget the Muzzie population is growing in the USA......i don't Judge mohammed mohammed from the slums of Fitlhy Philly passing blue laws against my beloved alcohol someday

It was like a scene out of a movie as the Police and SWAT teams swarmed past my house last night , racing as fast as they could to Norwood Ave and the campus of Monmouth University. The Long Branch students were under attack and it wasn't from the Chili at Jacks Goal Line Stand. No Sir , an active shooter was reported on campus and soon thereafter social media was flooded with Tik Tok videos of the brave students cowering in closets and hiding under beds. China watches and XiXi Pingpong laughs ....why waste a missile on these asexual snowflakes ?

Thankfully cooler heads prevailed as the Police concurred that the active shooter was really just a student with a curling iron (i wish i made that up) , but never waste a crisis.....classes today were delayed until Noon......ya know, so everyone can grab a double espresso latte in the student union and share videos about their near death experiences the night before. (kind of glad David Crosby is dead and didn't live to see his classic tune dragged into this display )

in the real world Chairman Powell raised rates a 1/4 point as most people with a clear head expected, but still seemed to rattle the markets...or so that's how it is being reported this morning.....NOT TRUE.....i watched Powells Q&A live in the yard with a cool refreshing glass of beer.....he announced the hike at 2:00 .....around 2:20 the markets were actually up close to 300 points.......it seemed to change when a reporter asked how many banks received a "HEED THIS" alert from the Treasury Dept and how they can ensure that the troubled banks actually do stop what they are doing and heed this warning........first he said " I don't know"....yikes.......then someone off camera told him 6 banks recd the panic level alert.....and then he concluded we really don't have the tools to ensure that they do in fact heed this warning.......well then......in the next 90 minutes we gave back the 300 point lead and closed the session down 500 Plus. He then explained how the current quantitative easing isn't really quantitative easing (even though it involves the Treasury printing more money) Powell insisted that the reason for printing money was different now......but umm....won't printing money increase inflation ? and you just said you won't really stop raising rates until inflation is under control (2% target is absurd, we are at 6%......if he can get it to 4% i would be impressed) and so it goes........print money and raise inflation then raise rates to fight inflation.......vicious cycle.

I don't envy his position and he seems like a conflicted human...but if you are raising rates to slow inflation then you accept that some institutions will crash under higher rates and you need the unemployment # to rise to really slow the economy......well then you can't step in with a printing press to bailout all the mismanaged institutions to are crashing under higher rates and give $$$ like Sanity Klaws to the newly unemployed.....that's the definition of being counter productive ..........me head hurts, thank God i have a fridge of beeeeer

The Biden Admin originally looked for a Private Bank to take over SVB (as i mentioned saturday), it now is being reported that the Bidens team had a list of who could and who could NOT buy the bank . One can only surmise that they were afraid of another Elon Musk type buying the bank and exposing all the dirty little secrets that the demons want to keep in the closet.

The Bank was run primarily by appointees. not career bankers who earned their position by merit.

The Bank celebrated their diversity at every turn .

all bank customers like you and me are guaranteed on deposits up to 250K per acct by the FDIC. On Sunday the Bidens announced that all deposits would be guaranteed above and beyond the 250K. WHY ? and more importantly is this the new norm ? Would dementia Joe have been so generous if this was the First National Bank of Florida ? or any other RED state bank filled with Republican donors ?

is this the first step in kemosabi Warrens attempt to Nationalize the Banking industry.

yesterday the market was up as these pathetic traders were hoping this would force Powell to pause/stop or reverse his rate hikes......it will not.....i would be shocked if Powell pauses...i think once that reality sets in the bloodbath will resume. more stupid banks that invest in 30 year bonds paying 1% will fail......i think this will only make my investments in JPM, WFC & BAC stronger and better.....giddy up.

Keep an eye on the Sabres.....i predict that if they sneak into the playoffs they will be a very tough out in the first round. Cozens, Thompson and Tuch are all getting healthy.....

well it's more like thieving in the VALLEY, as in Silicon Valley Bank.

2023 just went from a proceed with caution year for investing to a head for hills and take cover year.....never mind sell in may and go away, get out now if you can . If you are under 40 you can ride it out, keep reinvesting dividends and enjoy an 18 month discount on stocks...but if you are over 50 , you should consider the safe haven of Money Market and T-Bills and collect your 3.5-5% over the coming 2 years.......i won't be selling my clue chips of JPM or XOM , but i will continue to move some small fish to core , and in reality i am less than 2 years from Le Boca Vista , so i doubt i will reenter the market with most of those funds...

We are coming up on the 1 year mark since the Fed started raising rates, the impact of those rate hikes are not usually felt for 12 months....Inflation has not really retreated since the higher rates, mainly because the Govt Keeps spending, spending, spending......this summer could be a blood bath. I will be shocked if we do not see a significant hit in the commercial real estate market. The cities are unsafe and nobody wants to go back to the office....last month i had to be in the office 5 straight days......i brought lunch from home everyday and never left the building.....I stopped in Shop Rite on my way to the train and picked up 6 pints each night...gone are the days of 2 or 3 lunches a week in the bars and restaurants ( a lot of the bars do not even open until 4:00) nobody is going to the food courts or even Dunkin Donuts in the morning.

Credit Card debt may be the next big story....as more and more people see the minimum payment rise , they will eventually realize they are paying twice as much as last summer just to meet the interest.(the balances will not go down) eventually these folks will say eff it and just default.

Gas is of course going to shoot well over $100 a barrel. Nothing has been even agreed upon to increase our production. and so as China continues to open up and the full impact of sanctions on Russian oil are felt , well ; you get the idea.

Back to Silicon Valley Bank.....what happens next ?

The Govt has been spending money at a dangerous clip the past 2 years , how much more debt can they assume to bail out SVB ?  the expectation now is that the Fed is begging someone/anyone in the private banking sector to Take over SVB and guarantee all client deposits. If I am the Chairman of Chase, Citi, Wells etc ......i make Pocahontas Elizabeth Warren publicly beg for my help and take back all her mean girl comments about the banking industry.

as a Wells fargo stockholder i hope they do not lift a finger for this bailout.....the left has been attacking this bank , calling them Racists , sexist etc etc for the last 5 years......how hypocritical of them to now accept help from the Devil himself.....go ask Big Paulie Pelosi for a loan, the King of Insider Trading can surely lend a hand.

anyway....buckle up for Monday morning.....on the anniversary of the Bear Stearns collapse we could have another fallout session .

In March of 2020 he stood at the podium next to President Trump and used his own study as evidence that the LAB LEAK theory was not credible. He deliberately omitted the fact that this was his own study.

For 3 years guest after guest after guest interviewed by Maria Bartiromo supported the notion that this was in fact a LAB LEAK.  Bartiromo was mocked  by CNN/MSNB and others and the mainstream media refused to even allow discussions on the origins of COVID. 

Doctors in California were threatened with the loss of their medical licenses if they talked about or promoted the Lab Leak theory.

in February of 2023 the FBI admitted/concluded that the origins for Covid were indeed from a LAB LEAK in Wuhan China.

to all the people that said the new Republican congress should move on from Covid and just let it go , and instead concentrate on the economy, do you think any of this would have come to light anyway ?
