I can't wait for Soccer and the UFC to pass baseball and football in popularity... Maybe then my favorite teams will be back to playing day games. Boston College basketball just finished their ACC regular season without a victory..... Add that to their Football team also going winless in conference play and you have something that hasn't happened since TCU in ....get this.....1954. .....and Rutgers ? One win in big ten football and 1 win in conference basketball.......2 once proud Academic & Athletic schools that sold their souls for TV $$$.....hell, they could go winless with good citizens... No need to bring in rapists, thieves and drug dealers to accomplish that. Funny how hildabeast is mocking the Donns campaign slogan...."America never stopped being great" she quipped.... I tried to periodically pass the memorial and say a quick prayer. I always knew there would be a second attack... Although I thought it would be another truck bomb...I never imagined or feared it would be the horrific attack that it was....... But it once again proves that hiding and denying history doesn't work...... The 7 attackers were moslems, their friends would be back to finish the job in less than 10 years....president Clinton at the time urged Americans not to overeact.

For Bill Bratton to somehow claim that Nigro be given a free pass because he was at the base of the Towers on 9/11 is embarrassing and condescending to everyone that was there that day and has managed to dust themselves off and follow the rules without using those attcks as a crutch to explain our failures or misdeeds.

I think Bratton was trying to come to the defense of a colleague , and that is understandable....... But he crossed the line with that reference...... And I tend to think Daniel Nigro would agree.

A belated anniversary

Last Saturday..... January 16th....marked the 10th anniversary of this blog....hard to believe a little doggie in Monmouth county has had so much to say.
I must admit...... I looked back yesterday at the first few years and I concur that I have probably lost my mind.

First let me apologize to all the Battalion CHIEFS out there for my delay in addressing the seizure of 10 US Navy personal in the Persian gulf last week...... I was preoccupied planning Chaz higgins surprise 51st birthday at Arthur's...... It was a lot of work , but just seeing the look on his face when he opened his present was worth the price of admission.

Seriously though..... I am perplexed.... I spent 4 months in the Persian gulf in 1988....my ship was one of many that were patrolling those waters with our good friends the IRAQIS , ensuring that tankers carrying oil and or cargo were safe from the Iranians..... At that time the standing orders from Mister Reagen through Casper Weinberger and John Lehman ( I served under some pretty impressive leaders) was that never, under any circumstance, was a ship to be boarded or seized by ANYONE..... Let alone our enemies..... It was understood that you would defend that ship with your life..........I can't say if that was a documented order or just a verbal understanding......but for Chrissakes, our motto is DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP.

I am confused as to what exactly happened over there......did we loose power and radio contact at precisely the same time ??.....the odds of that are ridiculous...... So was this an aggressive act by Iran to jam our radar, take down our communications ? That's an act of war.....and should have been answered with force......even if it meant death................if we were in communication with the rest of the fleet, where was the help ?........the gulf is small......we have dozens of ships, carrier groups and bases within minutes of the isle of Farsi..... Where was the help ?
Did this particular boat commander just wuss out under pressure ? He sure was quick to apologize...... And the images of the 10 lounging on Arabian Rugs and stuffing their faces made my skin crawl.......you were a hostage for 12 hours, your not gonna starve to death or dehydrate...... Disgraceful.

So many questions remain.... But seriously.... Under the most transparent presidency in history ( barry Hussein's words, not mine) we still can't get answers on Benghazi all these years later....why would we expect the administration to be forthcoming or the media to pursue the story.

Obama, his press secretary, horse face Kerry and gentleman Joe Biden all rushed to the microphones to praise IRAN and their newfound diplomacy.... Lift sanctions, unfreeze billions....... The only person on the scene missing was the jack of hearts..... And Susan Rice.

I have never been a fan of Dan Rather..... But his big interview series is as good as any I have every seen......he asks great questions, really gets the subjects to open up and he doesn't interrupt or try to make it about him.......his interviews with Bob Weir and the one with Greg Allman were outstanding....... I thought I knew a lot about both of them. But learnt so much more.

Remember how he smirked like a smug sob chesire cat when he held that press conference in the Rose Garden with bergdahl parents to announce the prisoner swap......he , the noted historian and wise man; reminded us the U.S. military has a long tradition of leaving no man behind......that was his justification for releasing 5 al queda commanders.....then that dipshit Susan Rice went on TV to say bergdahl served with honor and distinction...... Where's the press conference now ? ?  Now that the treasonous lech is being court martialed and faces life in prison. ( he should get the death penalty)........ Well.....sad to say.....not that anyone is paying attention......but bergdahl broke his silence to create podcats with a filmmaker to tell his side of the story and the White House not only supports this, but they are eager to get these out in an attempt to garner empathy for the poster boy for treason.

Well.......yesterday the U.S. voted to end the probe without IRAN answering open questions..... " its time to move forward..... It's more important to get a deal then worry about the past" were quotes attributed to old purple heart Kerry yesterday.... Sounds like an obama clone worrying about his legacy....... Is it any wonder that nobody trusts anything the government says.....ever...is there any doubt that the citizenry of this Nation should remain armed to deter and combat our own government.... Let alone foreign enemies.... I will never own a gun.....i drink way too much to own a weapon.  But I sure hope my neighbors are armed and ready.

Let's flash back to the opening week of the Season in 2009......an optimistic Mets team only 2 years removed from the beltran fiasco, and coming off the heals of consecutive September collapses ; were in Miami to take on the hated marlins........Santana was pitching in the 2nd inning when a fly ball was hit into the April sunshine of left field......."our" rookie left fielder....(.a kid who never played the outfield before the prior season in double A.....the Mets asked him to switch to cover for an injured player.... He happily obliged).......struggled with the sun....broke back first....then awkwardly came in and misplayed the ball off the heal of his glove. 1 run scored on that play and another later in  that inning and the Mets lost 2-1.

Santana..... A multi million dollar veteran could have reacted in many ways......he could o talked about the need to score more runs, he could have said its a long season and we  are all in this together.....he could have said that kid is still learning and his bat will win some games for us , but instead he threw the kid under the bus.....said his 2nd inning error cost us the game and every game is crucial. And last year we missed the playoffs by 1 game and blah blah blah.......... A divisise force in the locker room..... Driving a wedge between teammates...... A true ...me first scumbag......and that's was the day I began to hate Santana ( although I still like his music )......that's why I was infuriated when he threw that asterisk one hitter........David Wright said the inability to hit and NOT the error in the second inning cost the Mets the game...... if he has a soul...if he is really a human being and not just a scott boras robot.....last night might have been THE turning point in the career of Matt Harvey.......for 7 2/3 innings he was shown what it is like to perform and WIN in the NY spotlight....in particular; the NY MET spotlight.......our championship seasons are rare compared to some other local teams, but when we win....there is no better atmosphere than Flushing Queens........in the bronx there is an expectation to win, and relief when you finally do....which is pretty arrogant for a team that has 1 world  series in 15 years....but in flushing there is unbridled enthusiasm for every step along the way.....there is a subtle expectation of impending doom , even in 86 when we had the best record in baseball; the post season was an excruciating high wire act where we were constantly on the brink of elimination......and so it continues today........always hopeful ....but always fearful......it brings out raw emotion from a rabid fan base...the cheers begin a year or two before we even make the playoffs, with diehards sitting in the brutal August Sun watching the triple A callups perform and the dream begins...ever hopeful.....and if you wear a Met uniform and perform on the big stage, you are appreciated and never forgotten........if Harvey still wants to leave via free agency, i suspect he is a robot......BUT.....if he stays, i suspect last night was a big part of the decision......in a season of side show distractions and an ugly "me first" attitude, the fans roared his name all night.......you might get that in Kansas City....but who wants it.........when you get that in NEW YORK, the world notices.....it's why 30 years later we still hold Darryl, Doc, Hernandez and Carter in high regard.....it's why 30 years later we still talk about where we were for the Buckner play and the Astro game and we remember every crazy detail...and those old enough recall the Buddy Harrelson v Pete Rose fight like it was last weekend and not 42 years.......as Casey coined....We're Just the Amazin Mets.

Cards vs Cubs

Is the media this stupid  ? Or do they just not give a shit ?
Evey talking head from Boston to Boise is marveling at the fact that the Cubs and Cardinals have NEVER met in the playoffs before this year ? Over a hundred years in the league together......wow.

Maybe, just maybe because for the first 70 odd years there were NO divisions.... And they were both on the National League..... No playoffs unless you end tied for first..... Something that only happened once or twice between the Dodgers & Giants....     Then in 1969 they added an east vs west NLCS............but the Cubs and Cards were both in the East......same rare probability..... Then in 95 they went to 3 divisions and 1 wild card.......but a division winner couldn't play a wild card from their own division in the first round........so they would both have to qualify for postseason and then win their first round series to meet.

It's only been the past 3 years in this bastardized extended double wil card nonsense that they could meet before the LCS.


Add in the fact that the Cubs have sucked 98% of the past 107 years and it's really no surprise at all........hell....for all their history the Yanks and Redsox only finished tied for first once; in 1978..........and did not meet for a playoff round until 1999.

Can anyone believe that the Astros and Rangers have never met in the postseason either ?

Here's my problem with MLB and the NFL.
You have successfully killed the spontaneity and flow of the game with replay reviews, and still you seldom get it right.

The fact that they could review the Utley play to find irrefutable evidence that the tip of tejadas toe came off the bag a split second before the ball was in his glove, to further arbitrarily decide that this was not a "neighborhood" play and he was not entitled to sweeping near the bag while turning two ( a rule that was put in to protect shortstops) and after all that nobody thought to call Utley OUT for interference is ludicrous.

And so Joe Torre reviews the play and decides to suspend Utley.......save your fucking suspension....... Make him suit up at citifield and face the wrath........ Did Torre also say that the Umps blew the call ?.......if it wasn't interference, then why the suspension ? ?   It can't be both.

so as i ripped my beloved mets for 48 hours at the trade deadline, even i had to ask myself WHY ?

why did i simultaneously express anger at both proposed deals and the lack thereof ?

why so much venom and vinegar being spewed in the direction of my favorite franchise, where did all this distrust, anger and angst get its genesis ?    I may have a partial explanation.

I was 12 years old in the summer of 1977.......my name was Thomas and I was a Mets fan.....the years preceding my 12th birthday had been extremely good to this young mets fan.....i saw my team knockoff the big Red Machine in the NLCS....i even went to game 4 of that series, we had a chance to clinch.....the excitement and nervous feeling still seem fresh today......we went on the play the Swinging A's and came within 1 win of our 2nd World Series triumph, and the MAN that ruled the Roost....the Best pitcher in baseball, my idol and namesake ( George really,  shh) Thomas "Tom Terrific" Seaver was a Met for life.....and so as a naive 12 year old i thought.............i should have known better.......less than 2 years prior my beloved Rangers 'WAIVED" the franchise netminder in a space clearing, money saving , heartless move.....Eddie, Eddie, Eddie Giacoman has been let go....only to return 2 nights later in the hated Redwings Jersey and admitted to crying throughout the game under his mask ( it's okay Wilmer) as the Garden faithful chanted his name throughout....EDDIE.....EDDIE....EDDIE........i cried that night as a 10 year old listening to Marv Albert describe the scene and i vowed to hate the Rangers till death.....that passed.....

fast forward 2 years to the spring and summer of 1977.....i read the scumbag Dick Youngs column everyday as he whined on and on about Seavers contract and how ungrateful the franchise pitcher was......we should have realized then that Young was on the mets secret payroll and was smeering our hero to soften the unfathomable upcoming blow........it didnt work of course........and on June 15th, Bayrdige...Brooklyn....New York,....the Tri state area...and the world were knocked for a loop when       M. Donald Grant traded George Thomas Seaver to the Cincinatti Reds (theres that color again)  for a package of players that all sucked........the franchise would sink to the bottom of the national league and become the laughing stock of baseball for years to come....

as painful as it was to see him in a Reds uniform.....to throw a No Hitter for somebody else while we still await our first ( santanA doesnt count)....the worst was yet to come........after the 1982 season we got him back........we greeted him with soldout exhuberance on opening day 1983 and all was right with universe...he even struckout that douchebag Pete Rose on opening day........and then after the 83 season......instead of a career ending long term deal.....they left him UNPROTECTED..........and he was stolen by the White Sox.....forced to wear that silly softball team uniform and win his 300th game in Yankee Stadium........

in the years to come we would sit in the upper deck and watch management dismantle the 86 Mets for financial and political reason, they again painted our heros as demons.....left them on the sidelines while Shea closed and Citifield opened...as if 86 never happened......

so there is a lot resentment and hatred i feel towards this franchise......but only because i care....because I love the Mets so much.....like Wilmer......like Zack Wheeler........we dont have to win the series......but please Wilpon....for the love of God....leave us some dignity.......

Emotional Rescue

Forgive me if I am a little weepy today......but news of our supreme leader barry hussein visiting Kenya have made me nostalgic.

29 years ago this very week I was on my way back to Diego Garcia after a successful 15 days leave in Bayridge for the reopening of the Statue of Liberty......

There is no commercial airline permitted to serve Diego, so you have to fly in military aircraft..... Which means you sit parachute style along the walls of the plane with pallets of cargo....no windows...... And you have to ask permission to use the head.

My flight plan took me from Newark to Norfolk, to Banger Maine, to Rota Spain then to Siggonella Sicily and then to Nairobi.......5 flights over 30 plus hours....layovers as they unloaded and loaded pallets onto the plane....and we weren't allowed to get off.........upon arriving in Kenya we were told there was a problem with the plane and we had to disembark while it was fixed......we were in civilian clothes of course, but we were greeted by machine gun toting stymies and escorted to a private room in the airport..... Not allowed to mingle with the general public..... But they had a small service bar.....so I had a few quasi chilled bottles of "Tusker" beer....as the afternoon wore on, we were told they could not fix the plane until later that night.... And since the Kenyan military could not secure the runway after dark, we would have to spend the night. ( there was a civil war going on at the time. Isn't there always ? )

So.....the State Department picked the 8 passengers and 6 crew members up and took us to the Hilton.....we gad to share rooms....I can't remember my roommates name, but he was fm Oklahoma or Nebraska........ "Do not leave your rooms for any reason, you will be captured and taken hostage....order room service and we will be back to get you at 5:00 a.m."

Well......suffice to say that 18 seconds after the State Department left our room, I was in the next elevator...... I convinced my roommate to come downstairs for a drink in the lobby.....and then to hit a few other Hotel Bars on the strip....( I didn't want to get captured alone)......and so we drank our Tusker Beer and talked about College Football, and i imagined I was in the same watering holes as Hemingway in snows of Killiminjaro.....back from a wild game hunt where I shot a rhinoceros and 2 wilderbeast...... And the next morning we boarded our plane with machine gun escort and flew to Athens and finally Diego.

Who knows..... Maybe barry Hussein's dad was cooking the family dog for dinner in the hills by the airport..... Or in the kitchen of the Hilton for that matter.

Anyway....... Maybe he'll get caught in the crossfire of the civil war..... I'm sure it's still going on

when asked why they Board chose a fare increase instead of service cuts , Veronique Hakim stated that service cuts would have resulted in 1,000 layoffs.......

so.....they are running an inefficient railroad.......they are loosing money on certain trains, lines etc etc.etc

Parade Day in the city

next deblasio......he stated to the effect that this team represents want women can accomplish and what needs to change in society..........wrong on every level..........they won a womens tournament......someone had to win....there were no mens teams in the womens world cup this year, so WTF is he talking about......next, what needs to change in society ?   should women be limited to competing against each other , like the world cup....is that what he meant ?   womens only schools, and professions ? i'm lost.

the media today will undoubtedly twist a feel good moment into something that its not, they are already talking about equal pay for professional women soccer players compared to men....not sure why they can't focus on 23 girls that won an international championship and are beloved by their country.....isnt that a good enough story ?

So in the past few weeks while the debate over the Confederate FLAG, Gay marriage, the parade for the U.S. National Women's Team and the immigration status of the landscapers at Trumps golf courses has dominated the evening news .....a few interesting things have happened.

Did you know that the Chinese are building man made islands to be used as military installations in the South China Sea ? And that they have threatened anyone that gets to close with military action.

Did you know that Iran is insisting on a lift on the arms embargo as part of the nuclear treaty ? Yep...this peaceful nation of islam that only wants nuclear capability to make electricity , wants to be able to legally buy weapons from Russia as a giveback to signing a nuclear treaty........ A treaty they need to have economic sanctions lifted on them.....strange how they seem to be dictating terms.

Did you know that the Russians have doubled their troop buildup in the Ukraine ?

Did you know that on the 4th of July.... At the same time Putin was on the phone with obama, that 2 Russian bombers were flying off the coast of Alaska....and that the Air Force had to scramble two fighter Jets to warn them to stay out of our air space.

Did you know we reduced our active military force by 40,000 the other day ?

And of course yesterday..... At approximately the same time..... American airlines and the NYSE suffered,   so far ; unexplained  computer failures that grounded all flights and trading activity.

And where has barry been? Besides tweeting about the soccer game ?

If we are not under cyber attack from China, Russia or ISIS..... Or all 3........they are at least testing the waters for a future attack...... Perhaps one where our nuclear weapons are disabled just long enough to take us out........

What it has come to symbolize in the modern day.... I personally did not like seeing that FLAG in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and other southern locals I frequented while serving in the Navy.....as a northerner in general and specifically a new Yorker..... So I would love to go on social media and start banging the drum for a conspiracy theory that states that the obama administration was behind the Charleston church shootings, to use this horrific incident to further push his anti-gun agenda.

life for the next 4 years. accompanied by Steve Mcevoy, Donn Hoffman and "Who Shot JR Ryan and the Rhine River".....as they drunkenly navigated 5th ave in the Monday morning dawn, i nervously strolled, secretly hoping for an earthquake or natural disaster that would delay my departure for the Great Lakes Bootcamp facility......as each street of my youth passed under my feet and immediately into a distant memory...my life was changing before my eyes....i had no idea what changes lay in store, but could sense they would be dramatic and swift , and i was right..........weddings, funerals, births , defections did rain from the skies onto bayridge in the 4 nomadic years i spent in the service of Uncle Sam....with each return trip i felt more detached and isolated on the gang plank of life.....sink or swim.....i dropped anchor for 10 years in Brooklyn upon my return to civilian life in 1989 , but it was never quite the same.....the buildings remained, but it was a like a bad movie sequel, they had B list actors playing the parts of your favorite characters......i will never forget that walk....and i am glad to say that even then on that very morning, 30 years ago tomorrow....I knew the Gravity of my actions.....i said goodbye to my pal Snoopy, and hello to the very special insanity that was the UNITED STATES NAVY !

Baltimore.... where's DAT ?

Well let's see.....we have a black mayor, a black city council. But POTUS could not bring himself.....72 hours after Saturdays riot, and a full 24 after Mondays bloodshed, to condemn the violence without also pointing a finger at Law Enforcement across this country ( his adopted land).....a slow moving crisis train as a RESULT of Police Brutality , thats how he described the conditions in America....

college campuses throughout the 20th and 21st century have always been a place of free speech and demonstration......whether they went to far at times is open for debate.......whether you agreed with the various messages matters not , but the core value was always open ended discussion....a place to voice any opinion....or to protest anything someone else is demonstrating....even denouncing your country's involvement in War....or supporting the troops......open dialogue, exchange of ideas....tolerance for ALL IDEAS......students have weighed in on everything from Wall street investing in Darfur to vaccines for babies......racism...gay rights...vegetarians against the Klan ( Joe Jackson) ...no idea or cause was too contreversial, freedom to state anything... And also the freedom to protest or debate anything....both sides get to voice their opinion..... Sometimes on the same lawn in opposing camps.

earlier this week the University of Michigan gave in to protets from Islamic staudent who were offended by the Movie "American Sniper" because it displayed negative islamic sterotypes.....and so the school cancelled a showing of the Movie in the student Union,......you see as Christians we are told by the liberal left that we must be tolerant and accept others right to free speech, even if that means defacing a painting of the Virgin Mary with cow feces and calling it art......one big happy Utopian exchange of ideas.....stimulates the brain....leads to greater understanding of opposing views.

Forget for a moment the merits of the movie or the protest......its irrelevent.

What is painfully relevant is that Sharia Law has come to the United States and is alive and well on College Campuses......they will silence and stifle anything that offends the Prophet......no dialogue, no exchange of ideas, NO TOLERANCE......so a college campus, where you can burn an effigy of your own president and the flag of the Nation, where you can denounce the military and law enforcement or spit on the constitution has said you can not watch a Movie....you are not free to hear the message and decide for yourself....... Because "We The Educators  . will decide what your allowed to see and hear........
