My hatred for yohan Santana is well known, I refuse to acknowledge the umo aided 1 hitter he through against the cardinals...... But now.....after all these years of befuddled looks from my fellow Met Fans, I feel vindicated.

Let's revisit why I turned on this carlis imposter.

Let's flash back to the opening week of the Season in 2009......an optimistic Mets team only 2 years removed from the beltran fiasco, and coming off the heals of consecutive September collapses ; were in Miami to take on the hated marlins........Santana was pitching in the 2nd inning when a fly ball was hit into the April sunshine of left field......."our" rookie left fielder....(.a kid who never played the outfield before the prior season in double A.....the Mets asked him to switch to cover for an injured player.... He happily obliged).......struggled with the sun....broke back first....then awkwardly came in and misplayed the ball off the heal of his glove. 1 run scored on that play and another later in  that inning and the Mets lost 2-1.

Santana..... A multi million dollar veteran could have reacted in many ways......he could o talked about the need to score more runs, he could have said its a long season and we  are all in this together.....he could have said that kid is still learning and his bat will win some games for us , but instead he threw the kid under the bus.....said his 2nd inning error cost us the game and every game is crucial. And last year we missed the playoffs by 1 game and blah blah blah.......... A divisise force in the locker room..... Driving a wedge between teammates...... A true ...me first scumbag......and that's was the day I began to hate Santana ( although I still like his music )......that's why I was infuriated when he threw that asterisk one hitter........David Wright said the inability to hit and NOT the error in the second inning cost the Mets the game...... He said the kid is a helluva player, learning left field as he goes and he will win us a bunch of games with his bat, fire and intensity...... That's why be is CAPTAIN....

Harvey

if he has a soul...if he is really a human being and not just a scott boras robot.....last night might have been THE turning point in the career of Matt Harvey.......for 7 2/3 innings he was shown what it is like to perform and WIN in the NY spotlight....in particular; the NY MET spotlight.......our championship seasons are rare compared to some other local teams, but when we win....there is no better atmosphere than Flushing Queens........in the bronx there is an expectation to win, and relief when you finally do....which is pretty arrogant for a team that has 1 world  series in 15 years....but in flushing there is unbridled enthusiasm for every step along the way.....there is a subtle expectation of impending doom , even in 86 when we had the best record in baseball; the post season was an excruciating high wire act where we were constantly on the brink of elimination......and so it continues today........always hopeful ....but always fearful......it brings out raw emotion from a rabid fan base...the cheers begin a year or two before we even make the playoffs, with diehards sitting in the brutal August Sun watching the triple A callups perform and the dream begins...ever hopeful.....and if you wear a Met uniform and perform on the big stage, you are appreciated and never forgotten........if Harvey still wants to leave via free agency, i suspect he is a robot......BUT.....if he stays, i suspect last night was a big part of the decision......in a season of side show distractions and an ugly "me first" attitude, the fans roared his name all night.......you might get that in Kansas City....but who wants it.........when you get that in NEW YORK, the world notices.....it's why 30 years later we still hold Darryl, Doc, Hernandez and Carter in high regard.....it's why 30 years later we still talk about where we were for the Buckner play and the Astro game and we remember every crazy detail...and those old enough recall the Buddy Harrelson v Pete Rose fight like it was last weekend and not 42 years.......as Casey coined....We're Just the Amazin Mets.

Cards vs Cubs

Is the media this stupid  ? Or do they just not give a shit ?
Evey talking head from Boston to Boise is marveling at the fact that the Cubs and Cardinals have NEVER met in the playoffs before this year ? Over a hundred years in the league together......wow.

Maybe, just maybe because for the first 70 odd years there were NO divisions.... And they were both on the National League..... No playoffs unless you end tied for first..... Something that only happened once or twice between the Dodgers & Giants....     Then in 1969 they added an east vs west NLCS............but the Cubs and Cards were both in the East......same rare probability..... Then in 95 they went to 3 divisions and 1 wild card.......but a division winner couldn't play a wild card from their own division in the first round........so they would both have to qualify for postseason and then win their first round series to meet.

It's only been the past 3 years in this bastardized extended double wil card nonsense that they could meet before the LCS.


Add in the fact that the Cubs have sucked 98% of the past 107 years and it's really no surprise at all........hell....for all their history the Yanks and Redsox only finished tied for first once; in 1978..........and did not meet for a playoff round until 1999.

Can anyone believe that the Astros and Rangers have never met in the postseason either ?

Here's my problem with MLB and the NFL.
You have successfully killed the spontaneity and flow of the game with replay reviews, and still you seldom get it right.

The fact that they could review the Utley play to find irrefutable evidence that the tip of tejadas toe came off the bag a split second before the ball was in his glove, to further arbitrarily decide that this was not a "neighborhood" play and he was not entitled to sweeping near the bag while turning two ( a rule that was put in to protect shortstops) and after all that nobody thought to call Utley OUT for interference is ludicrous.

And so Joe Torre reviews the play and decides to suspend Utley.......save your fucking suspension....... Make him suit up at citifield and face the wrath........ Did Torre also say that the Umps blew the call ?.......if it wasn't interference, then why the suspension ? ?   It can't be both.

And so it began last night in Chicago...... Benny Avni in today's NY Post raises some great points about the fading influence of the USA and the increased bullying of Obama's good friend Putin.........remember that pickup by the microphone when obama told Putin " I will have greater flexibility in my second term "........so nice of him to offer such friendly insight to our greatest enemy and threat.

But even better......as Russia supplies daily doses of weapons and heavy machinery to " the great reformer " Assad......and continues to quietly invade the Ukraine......and fly's sorties of their Bombers off the coast of Alaska and taunt our pilots on the 4th of July..... We are reminded of obamas 16 year old girlish comeback during the 2012 presidential debate......when Mitt Romney asserted that Russia was the USA's number 1 geopolitical adversary...... And barry Hussein quipped " the 1980's called, they want their foreign policy back "........hahahahaha.......... Who's laughing now ? ? Hilary and Kerry have brokered America to the point of extinction and annihilation....... Is Russia launched a Nuclear weapon at America today.....how confident are you that we would stop that missile and respond in kind ? ?

Observations from the Bean Post Window

It's ironic and sad that at a time where oul is at its cheapest price in a very long time.....a factor that would continue to cripple Irans economy.....a factor that should drive them to the negotiation table begging for relief from sanctions and voluntarily shuttering their Nuclear ambitions......we are instead tossing them a billion dollar lifeline and ensuring they not only survive this financial crisis from lost oil revenues, but actually strive , purchase conventional weapons and build a BOMB....sad

And while barry Hussein is jetting around Alaska renaming mountains and lecturing us about global warming, and blaming us for leaving future generations with weather related issues from glaciers melting........he has no problem with our kids and grandkids living in a nuclear age with the ayotollahs having a BOMB..........a BOMB they will shoot into orbit.......wiping satellite technology and destroying our banking systems as well as our radar to detect and protect from future attacks.

And where once POTUS ...POS.....felt compelled to weigh in on every crime against blacks fm coast to coast.......( the Beer Summit...... Treyvon could be my son.....sending the attorney general to Ferguson... And summoning sharpton to the blackhaus after Eric garner resisted arrest )......he's quieter than a church mouse as Our Police nationwide are under attack and being executed......

if you thinks its bad now, imagine a world where law abiding folks have to surrender their guns and  only the criminals with nothing to loose are carrying weapons.......i've never owned a gun and i probably never will.....i rely on law enforcement to keep me safe and i try my best to use common sense and avoid high crime areas whenever possible.....but i support 200% the rights of law abiding citizens to register and own guns........I also totally believe that the fact that Americans own their own weapons will prevent a President from ever trying to become a dictator...........certainly our politicans won't.....they will follow the pied piper of their own parties into hell if it means bigger bread crumbs along the way ( Thats both Dems and Repubs).......and we see already how a 2 term President can cripple and demoralize a once Strong and Proud Military.....imagine if he had a 3rd term ?

Do me a favor, let's hold off on that congressional medal for Stevie Wonder for giving a "free" concert in Central Park.

To hear the local news reports this day, one might surmise that the aforementioned Mister wonder had found a cure for penicillin......when in fact. He used taxpayer dollars and central park to promote his upcoming tour ( Tix for that are not free).

He played for 40 minutes and talked about his upcoming shows.....he pulled the same stunt in Washington and filthadelphia earlier in the day......why not Baltimore ( where's dat?)

Every station in the tristate area picked up the story and ran clips from the concert.....he got more air time today than when he was a geust on the Bob Hope Christmas special.............. How much coverage would a traditional press conference have received ?

So he was very smart, very shrewd business and he probably enjoyed playing......I appluad that.........but he's not mother Theresa bringing free music to the ghetto.....si let's give it a rest.

so as i ripped my beloved mets for 48 hours at the trade deadline, even i had to ask myself WHY ?

why did i simultaneously express anger at both proposed deals and the lack thereof ?

why so much venom and vinegar being spewed in the direction of my favorite franchise, where did all this distrust, anger and angst get its genesis ?    I may have a partial explanation.

I was 12 years old in the summer of 1977.......my name was Thomas and I was a Mets fan.....the years preceding my 12th birthday had been extremely good to this young mets fan.....i saw my team knockoff the big Red Machine in the NLCS....i even went to game 4 of that series, we had a chance to clinch.....the excitement and nervous feeling still seem fresh today......we went on the play the Swinging A's and came within 1 win of our 2nd World Series triumph, and the MAN that ruled the Roost....the Best pitcher in baseball, my idol and namesake ( George really,  shh) Thomas "Tom Terrific" Seaver was a Met for life.....and so as a naive 12 year old i thought.............i should have known better.......less than 2 years prior my beloved Rangers 'WAIVED" the franchise netminder in a space clearing, money saving , heartless move.....Eddie, Eddie, Eddie Giacoman has been let go....only to return 2 nights later in the hated Redwings Jersey and admitted to crying throughout the game under his mask ( it's okay Wilmer) as the Garden faithful chanted his name throughout....EDDIE.....EDDIE....EDDIE........i cried that night as a 10 year old listening to Marv Albert describe the scene and i vowed to hate the Rangers till death.....that passed.....

fast forward 2 years to the spring and summer of 1977.....i read the scumbag Dick Youngs column everyday as he whined on and on about Seavers contract and how ungrateful the franchise pitcher was......we should have realized then that Young was on the mets secret payroll and was smeering our hero to soften the unfathomable upcoming blow........it didnt work of course........and on June 15th, Bayrdige...Brooklyn....New York,....the Tri state area...and the world were knocked for a loop when       M. Donald Grant traded George Thomas Seaver to the Cincinatti Reds (theres that color again)  for a package of players that all sucked........the franchise would sink to the bottom of the national league and become the laughing stock of baseball for years to come....

as painful as it was to see him in a Reds uniform.....to throw a No Hitter for somebody else while we still await our first ( santanA doesnt count)....the worst was yet to come........after the 1982 season we got him back........we greeted him with soldout exhuberance on opening day 1983 and all was right with universe...he even struckout that douchebag Pete Rose on opening day........and then after the 83 season......instead of a career ending long term deal.....they left him UNPROTECTED..........and he was stolen by the White Sox.....forced to wear that silly softball team uniform and win his 300th game in Yankee Stadium........

in the years to come we would sit in the upper deck and watch management dismantle the 86 Mets for financial and political reason, they again painted our heros as demons.....left them on the sidelines while Shea closed and Citifield opened...as if 86 never happened......

so there is a lot resentment and hatred i feel towards this franchise......but only because i care....because I love the Mets so much.....like Wilmer......like Zack Wheeler........we dont have to win the series......but please Wilpon....for the love of God....leave us some dignity.......
