Hope springs eternal

Well-a, beat the drum and hold the phone,
The sun came out today.
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home,
It's a brown-eyed handsome man,
Anyone can understand the way I feel.......(John fogerty)

Perfect lyrics for a perfect day......no matter how much I whine and drone about the demise of our great game, it’s still OUR Great Game.....Our National pastime...the boys of summer...and nothing compares with opening day...everyone is tied for first...rounding third and headed for home....God Bless America....and shine down on our beloved Metropolitans whilst you are at it.

on a long and lonsesome highway, east of omaha

yesterday as a light rain fell on the streets of bayridge, in a quiet unassuming bar and even less ceremonious atmosphere, I said goodbye to my former head linesman...perhaps forever.....he's off battle life's demons on greener pastures, and a newer and different battlefield with a fresh set of combatants on the foreign shores of the sunshine state.....I will miss him for sure, but truth be told ive been missing him for a longtime already....he checked out of our circle 18 months ago,  for whatever reason I know not what for.....he was top 5 interesting, entertaining and funny when he was in his prime, he probably never should have left bayridge in the 1st place....he had a good tun in the Garden Satate but it ended terribly and he was never quite the same...he was a modern day walter mitty, an ever changing chameleon, he struggled with the basic truths but he sure was funny and told a great story...i'll save his obituary for when he truky dies not just metaphorically.....I wish him well and I hope he makes peace with himself and enjoys whats left of this life......as bob seger says...."there we goo, turn the page"

“All the things I planned to do

I only did halfway, tomorrow will Be Sunday; born a rainy Saturday “ (Garcia)
More sad news out of Met land and a bitter reminder that our time is fleeting.....Dementia, Alzheimer’s and a stroke are the 3 things that scare me the most....not even the Great Tom Seaver is immune......the legend, the Franchise...has retired from public life as a result of Dementia....just a few short months shy of the honoring of the 1969 Mets 50th Anniversary.....how empty and hollow that celebration will be without TomTerrific .....my namesake, my boyhood idol and hero...he was an all around gentleman and good citizen....run out of town by 2 scumbags.....m Donald grant and dick young ( that filthy douche reporter who trashed Seaver to gain favors from Mets management)....and all these years later the met faithful are still begging for a statue ....maybe now the wilponzis will finally concede.................8 million memories of Tom Terrific , today I will share a funny one.....on or about August 3rd 1985 I was on weekend leave from the Great Lakes naval station and was enjoying a few cold beeeeers on Chicago’s north side with Donnie Hoff, Steve Collins and Eddie G...it was a Sunday afternoon and although the Mets were playing the cubs in wrigley we did not go ( we had been there the day prior) nope...we found a bar to watch the Yankees game as they honored their longtime shortstop and announcer o on Phil Rizzutto Day.....luckily they were playing the White Sox and the game would be televised in Chicago ( long before espn and the mlb network, you couldn’t always watch whatever game you wanted).....oh , but we weren’t tuning in to see the Yankees....no sir ....as luck would have it......George Thomas Seaver took his 299 wins to the mound that day and absolutely silenced the Yankees bats before a sold out crowd and a multitude of METSIE jerseys in yankee stadium....we roared and cheered our approval in a Windy City gin mill in the most surreal surrounding ever.......the bartenders seemed perplexed why a group of New Yorkers were feverishly pulling for the Chisox..... Tom Terrrific got # 300 that day and we got another memory for a lifetime.....safe travels Mr. Seaver, a scary road ahead, we wish you well.....

AOC ......all out crazy

Curtis sliwa coined that nickname for the junior congressman from Astoria , and he’s right on the mark .......her latest brilliant idea is to tax each and every financial transaction, yes; every trade will carry a  surcharge.....again misguided govt involvement where it doesn’t belong and it will have an adverse effect.....my union friends with pensions sb concerned because I promise you that the Fat Cat Wall Street firms will find away to make up for list revenue......they will simply increase fees for managing your pension......the private sector has the brightest legal minds and pays handsomely for their advice, they are always 3 steps ahead of any govt regulations or new tax.

He who cannot be trusted

must fail “ ( Dylan) ....oh Bob , if only it were that easy....the rumbling aftershocks of hypocrisy will one day destroy this country like an earthquake from the highest mount....yesterday the same SCUM that insisted “any deal was better than no deal “ while defending the Obama/Kerry iran deal ( you know, the deal that sent 150 billion dollars to Iran for a ten year break in their nuclear program and a lifting of economic sanctions)..well they pushed their way to the microphone to say President Trup should not trust nor accept a deal with North Korea.....I agree with those sentiments but sadly their motives are to deny President Trump a victory .......even if it was a perfect deal they would oppose.....and if it was obama or Hillary or Bernie or AOC , and it was a horrible deal paying Kim jung in BILLIONS to be our friend for a photo shoot, they would trip over themselves to appluad the deal and demand a Nobel Peace prize ........
“Memory, ecstasy, tyranny, hypocrisy...
Betrayed by a kiss on a cool night of bliss
In the valley of the missing link...
And you have no time to think”

Now everything’s a little upside down

As a matter of fact the wheels, what’s good is bad, what’s bad is good “(Dylan) ......and so sweater nite 21 ( aka a 21 drunk salute) has come and gone....some old familiar faces from near and far trekked their way back to the birthplace of civilization, Bay Ridge Brooklyn...we may wear different hats in life and live in many houses, hold many different jobs, even marry different people perhaps, but the ne thing you can’t change , the one fact , the one constant; is where you are from ......I’m honored and privileged along with Sweater Nite to be from 11209........Thanks to all who made last weekend one for the books.........”you’ll find out when you’ve reached the top, you’re on the bottom..,,,,IDIOT WIND.”

The wheel is turning

That mover and shaker Denny Forrest is At it again, now he has the Belmont arena in his cross hairs apparently and he is taking his case to the walking soundbite AOC , won’t be long now. Denny Forrest sending tweets to Ocasio-Cortez...@AOC great job on amazon, let’s look at the secret deal Cuomo gave the hockey team to build an arena in Belmont, NOT what the community wants or needs...corporate welfare.

Let’s swim to the moon

Uh-huh....let’s climb through the tide....penetrate the evening that the city sleeps to hide.(James Douglas Morrison) Oh Jim how could you leave us so soon ? Still you left undeniable imagery in our brains and I am thankful that as I walk to the train at 5:30 this morning, that it is the Doors and moonlight drive that is the soundtrack in my skull...it seems to me a combination of incredibly good music with poetic lyrics and hearing that music while my brain was young, functioning and committing to memory... and I am grateful....I don’t know nor do I care what I had for lunch yesterday....but I’m delighted that my brain is on autopilot and finds the right music for the moment every waking day....more than this I will not ask.........” you reach your hand to hold me, but I can’t be your guide..”

Derby 2019

Positively ridiculous to try and pick a Derby 🐎 horse while still in the frigid month of January, but here goes anyway......BOURBON WAR is on my radar...if IRad Jr keeps riding him and he has a good run in his next prep (3:2 FOY) then he may become my pick for the first Saturday in May.

I ran into the fortune teller

Who said beware of lightning that might strike.......25 years ago last night....@ Madison Square Garden, the future was told and it wasn’t madam Marie.....the NHL all-star was held at the Worlds Most Famous arena....the first place Rangers were represented by Misters Messier, Leetch, Graves and of course Michael Richter....the game was a River Hockey shootout and st one moment the games most exciting and arguably best player found himself all alone at center ice with the puck for a an easy break away goal.....the Russian Rocket; Patel Bure, was flying in on net with nobody to stop him .....nobody that is except Mr Richter....the Garden rose to their collective feet and watched as the greatest American Goalie stonewalled the worlds greatest player....the Garden erupted......and it wasn’t just a great save in a silly all star game....5 months later in the Stanley Cup Finals these two would meet again....this time in Vancouver on a penalty shot, with the momentum of the series on the line Mr Richter once again stoned Pavel Bure.....the Rangers rallied from being down a game, won twice out west and won the series in 7....thanks for the memories Mike

Hypocrisy

Is a dish best served with a shot of tequila and a lemon wedge....so now Nancy pelosi wants the state of union cancelled for security reasons during the government shutdown...yep, she’s worried about “HER “ safety....NOT YOURS....she couldn’t care less about who is strolling across the border, dropping anchor, demanding food, clothing and shelter and in some cases raping and murdering innocent citizens....but when it comes to her safety “ her bedroom window is made out of bricks, the national guard stands around her door..no I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more “

While you were gone

these spaces filled with darkness, the obvious was hidden........ Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated...the hypocrisy of the left demands a spotlight....forget for a moment the words of Obama, Clinton, and Schumer who each warned of disaster at the southern border and the need to stop illegal immigration ....hell schumer wanted to give digital ids to every illegal so we could track them, and Obama cried that illegal immigrants would cripple our economy and that it wasn’t fair to people “ waiting in line for legal immigration “.,.,forget that. about face and focus on the dreamers for a moment......at one time they were the golden child of the American left.....but now they seem forgotten.....pelosi and Schumer could get the dreamers legal citizenship i in a heartbeat, Trump has already agreed in principle; if they will be willing to allocate 5 billion in crumbs towards a section of the wall.....but no.....and why ? Because the democrats own the dreamers, they fill them with fear and lies that Trumps wants to deport them....the dreamers of course are loyal to the dems. So there is nothing new to gain ( except for these poor bastards in limbo) ...and God forbid Trump is the President who gets a deal for Dreamers....it kills the democrats argument that trump wants to deport everyone.....once again politicians have managed to shun their own pet causes because they no longer serve them long term........with nothing to believe in, the compas. Always points y Terrapin.

It’s a shadowy world, skies are slippery grey

in an oft times mean and heartless world there comes a light, there is still decency in the world...….a little boy from North Carolina was visiting family in Utah last month when he was diagnosed with Brain Cancer, his doctors recommended that he undergo treatment in Utah and he did...…..problem was he missed his Labrador puppy back home...….a truck driver who did not know the family heard the story and offered to drive the dog 2300 miles to be with the boy......and he offered to drive the dog back to NC when the child was well enough to go home....as of this writing the Boy and his dog are playing in the snow in Utah, all is right in his scary little world.. Boy and his dog,, Went out looking for the rainbow... You know what did they learn Since that very day..... Walking by the river And running like a blue streak.... Through the fields of streams and meadows Laughing all the way Van morrison

Time marches on

Time stands still, Time on my hands Time to kill,.. Blood on my hands And my hands in the till Down at the seven-eleven...... Gentle rain Falls on me All life folds back Into the sea We contemplate eternity Beneath the vast indifference of heaven ( W. Zevon It’s over for the planet for certain and unfortunately for the United States too, the pack of miscreants, slobs and sharia law followers elected to Congress yesterday will tear down what’s left of this once great republic...I’ve been rewatching the Civil War documentary by Ken Burns, those who foretold of the demise of this nation in the aftermath of the war were right...everything takes time , especially a downward slope...I’m not talking about the abolition of slavery, that was the right thing to do, I’m talking about the dismantling of all values on the other side...just because...this is Custers last stand, the good guys are outnumbered, unless we somehow stop the flow of illegals into this country, it will dissolve itself quickly, a legal immigrant from Fiji joins the police force and starts a family and is gunned down by an ILLEGAL alien that should have been deported....it’s off the news cycle in 72 hours, yet the liberals that control the media will roll the tape of the fat bastard on Staten Island resisting arrest and meeting his rightful end....it’s subliminal mind control and sadly our next generation of mindless twits are soaking it up...

Suicide in the trenches

I knew a simple soldier boy Who grinned at life in empty joy, Slept soundly through the lonesome dark, And whistled early with the lark........... In winter trenches, cowed and glum, With crumps and lice and lack of rum, He put a bullet through his brain. No one spoke of him again. S. Sassoon And so on Saturday amidst the hoopla and merriment, the cheering crowds and marching bands, the wearing of the Green and Gold and all things Notre Dame, I ask my friends to say two prayers....first and foremost for the family and friends of one Declan Sullivan, he is the young man tragically killed during a Notre Dame football practice in 2010...he was the team videographer that was sent to a 50 ft scaffolding during sixty mile an hour windstorm by the honorable Brian Kelly , head coach of Notre Dame ...in the aftermath of this murder the scoundrels of nd released a 100 page report explaining what happened and insisting it was just a tragic accident, although they did conclude that practice should have been moved indoors on this particular day..the Sullivan family ? They are a different breed, no lawsuit; although dozens of lawyers assured them they were entitled to millions, they turned their attention to their sons legacy, Mr Sullivan quit his job as an engineer and began volunteering with the horizon group, a charity that helps tutor and financially support kids from inner city Chicago, he is now the CFO of the charity, and they took initial donations and were able to create Declan’s kids...a small group of kids each year that received their attention....this year that group rose to Declan’s 90...amazing how some can turn tragedy into opportunities for others....you probably won’t see the Sullivan family on the pregame show as they shun the spotlight ( although kudos to both espn and sports illustrated for airing and writing stories about their charitable work......I did say 2 prayers didn’t I ? .....oh yes, say a prayer that the smug, arrogant, cocksucker that sent that boy to his death is haunted for eternity for his cowardice.....and while you’re at it, say a prayer that Clemson kicks their fuckin ass on the field. ...” You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you'll never know The hell where youth and laughter go”..

Good times, bad times

You know I had my share....first the good news, sweater nite 21 is slated for Saturday February 23rd in the knights of Columbus.....plan accordingly....and I geuss there isn’t any bad news per se...just the regular bullshit.... I chuckled at the hypocrisy of the university of North Carolina students that tore down a statue that stood for a hundred plus years honoring the school alumni that died in the civil war on the side of the confederacy....”silent Sam” was the name of the statue.....the student body tore it down during the first week of classes back in August.,,the administration is trying to find a new permanent location on campus, but the spoiled brat shitbirds don’t want to allow this....so they carried black olives matter banners and chanted “ this is what democracy looks like “......well kids, your teachers have failed you....,this is mob rule, nothing similar to democracy ....good thing tuition only costs 50k
