65 days into this year and 2026 is shaping up to be one of the Greatest in our Nations History.....i could care less what the millennials or gen Z think or have to say about any of this.......those in GenX and the Boomers that lived through the 1970's can appreciate and relish in the current situation. I was 14 when the Iranians attacked our embassy and took 52 Americans hostage....444 days later as i approached my 16th birthday they released them as President Reagan was about to be sworn in ......i was furious during that time period....every night i watched the 6:00 news awaiting our military to attack , free the hostages, and kill every last one of those dress wearing fanuks.....it never happened.....during my 4 years in the Navy we were preoccupied with the cold war and staring down the Russian bastards in the Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea and anywhere else we happened to cross paths.....but i never lost my hatred of Iran.....when Spoonjiah obama gave them pallets of cash to delay their nuclear program for 10 years on the honor system, well i thought all hope for retribution was lost.....in truth it almost was....if they had developed a Nuclear bomb ( and they were very close) we would have been forced to tread lightly, play nice and stomach an Iranian regime that chanted death to America on a daily basis.

Today I smile the smile of  VICTORY....47 years late, but just as sweet.....we are pummeling these cockroaches at every turn.......and we are doing it without the coalition of sissy's that obama, clinton and bush fawned over........no help from the surrender Monkeys in France or the Limey Bastards in England...no help from the silver medalists in canada ....no air space from Spain....no problema.....you don't lead from behind barry.......you seize the day and show the way.

She made this game, this tournament, these Olympics about her and her girlfriend....and even if they win today, she still stole the spotlight from her teammates unnecessarily. On the eve of the biggest game of their lives, they should be thinking about their opponents, and their game plan and representing their Country....they should be thinking about playing a flawless match and setting an example for ALL the girls at home......but instead they are forced to think about and answer questions about silly side dramatics.....and they have to wonder how committed to the team their Captain is...

i certainly can't top David Bowie.....so i won't even try to eulogize Floyd "Uncle Floyd" Vivino. I will just say how funny and different he and his show was. From Patterson NJ and Point Pleasant Beach....he was one of a kind....there are not too many people that have had a song written by Bowie about them and also got a mention in songs by the Ramones......I heard an interview with Floyd after Bowie died and he told the story about meeting him at the bottom Line......and when Floyd asked Bowie how he even heard of his program, Bowie said "John Lennon told me to give it a watch" ........

I personally will always associate the show with the late  Chris Hickey and the wasted afternoons on hallucinogens' watching that show above Elegantes pizza.....we laughed so hard we missed 80 % of the show... and didn't care.

I was in AC years ago , we were having drinks in the Borgata , but were headed that evening to see Jackson Browne at Ceasers......and suddenly a guy walks past.....no entourage.....but he was carrying a banjo case and was wearing a pork pie hat....sure enough he was on the opening act for the Borgata that night.....i was tempted to sell my tickets and go see Uncle Floyd......but i wasn't on mescaline....and cooler heads prevailed........

If Tampon Tim and the frugal mayor cared about their citizens and were trying to protect them and their right to peaceful protest, they would certainly deploy local Police at the very least.  well....it was 20 years ago today that a little doggie in Monmouth County said " I'm mad as hell and I can't take it anymore" and thus this Blog was born........it quickly soared to the top of the canine blog charts and even gave Fox News and the NY Post a run for the money, folks near and far turned away from the mainstream media and began reading the Blog for all the hard hitting news that's fit to print....no topic too controversial , no gossip to ripe for repeating, no imaginary tales too far fetched to create....on some days after hitting the ENTER button on a particularly "hot political take or a Bizarre story to share" , i would wait patiently for the phone to ring.......and Dano never dissapointed......no hello or other formality.....as soon as i answered he would jump right in ........."i'm on the Blog, have you been drinking already " ??   lol.....i sure do miss him......in his absence the comment sections has taken on a life of it's own......our lost Sailor ALVAREZ has been know to weigh in and even some chinese hackers......it sure has been interesting.......Cheeres , Slainte'........hopefully Matteau has another 20 years in those paws.

Welcome back to the once a year visitors to this blog , feel free to review the past 12 months of commentary or even go back 20 years on a rainy day........this coming Friday ....January 16th.....marks the 20th anniversary of the Sweater Nite Blog......i can't wait until the martians take over earth in a hundred years and stumble across this Blog....boy will they be impressed by my Dog Matteau.....his writing style, his wisdom and of course his Witt.......he is a very impressive dog...and opinionated too.

This past year we were happy to award 4 Sweaters to alumni that have gone above and beyond when it comes to supporting Sweater Nite, their stalwart efforts did not go unnoticed.....and the recipients were in alphabetical order:

Steve Collins , Roy D, Steve O'Dowd and Kevin Woods........slainte', well done.

We also saw the continued tradition of two very popular Monmouth County events....the annual pilgrimage to Monmouth Park by the PC's faithful , and all the local Bayridge expatriates ; on  a beautiful Saturday afternoon........and the polar opposite.......the outdoor gathering on a frozen tundra for a December Keg Party and the yearly trouncing of Navy over Army.

Now, i am usually in favor of Capital Punishment , but even I must admit that housing Nicholas Maduro and his misses in the Sunset Park detention center ( A mere stones throw from our old apartment above Napper Tandy's)  is both cruel and unusual.

speaking of stupid.....i hope the virtue signaling twit in Minnesota is happy now....she was soo cool and brash before getting shot in the head......dropped her kid off at school and then raced across town to harass and obstruct an ICE operation....stupid move Karen.....but then she ignored orders to get out of the car and instead decided to drive away.....not so fast my friend.....and now she's dead.....good riddance .....she put her faith in the politicians that told her for 12 months that ICE was the devil himself....Hitler reincarnated.....she must've believed that the criminal illegal aliens were the victims and that Law Enforcement was the problem., or more likely she was a paid protestor, a useful idiot happy to do the dirty work of George Soros..........oh well....say hi to sleepy floyd for us.

2026 is going to be an interesting year with more "circle the date" events than we usually see in a decade. From the kickoff of the Milan-Cortino Winter Olympics in February to the FIFA World Cup on our shores in June-July. From the Parade of Tall Ships visiting several US ports and culminating in NY Harbor on the 250th Birthday of this great Nation, to the 28th Iteration of our humble Sweater Nite gathering.

2026 threatens to be the closing of Our Version of the Fillmore East.........the finest Rock & Roll hall this Brooklyn Neighborhood has ever seen, I am of course talking about the Oak Room and the Lief Bar & Grill....how proud we all should be with just how far Mike Gallagher has taken our favorite watering hole and how lucky we are that he has taken such good care of this shrine.

Our Viking predecessors believe in the Journey to Valhalla....a sacred reward for the chosen.....not just heaven, but a specific destination for elite warriors intended to serve as a divine Army. I believe the carriers of the torch to preserve Liev Eirikson Bar all these years will be chosen by the Valkries and plucked off the battlefield........The Reilly's & Gallaghers have fought the good fight and provided a service to this neighborhood for which we are all in debt.

I am proud and honored to announce that we are indeed returning to 6725 5th Ave for perhaps our last time as the curtain is preparing to drop on this cathedral. For at least one more glorious day we shall belly up to the bar, slake our thirst with delicious beer and step into the ally for a chat or some fresh cold air.

The pregame skate will of course be held at High Noon at PCs , and once we hear the Call to Beeer from the Minarets, we shall parade down 5th ave to the Lief.

40 years ago last June i took the biggest leap of my life......at the age of barely 20  i left my home and family and everything i knew to join the United States Navy........truth be told i was terrified by the fact that my life was not my own.....i was in fact property of the US Government.......4 months later that Govt sent me to deserted tropical island in the center of the Indian Ocean for 1 surreal year........12 straight months without a phone, live TV or realtime contact with the outside world.......i survived it all.....and then i lost my brother.....nothing could have prepared me for that and i would never be the same.....never shocked again.....that was the greatest shock of my life....from that point on i mentally prepared for everyone i knew to die......as soon as i heard someone was sick i began preparing for their death....not morbid......just refusing to be caught off guard ...it was a difficult lesson ....but my self defense system would serve me well....and the next 3 years i barely flinched when sent to the Persian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea,  North Atlantic, Cuba , you name it.....flying around the world in horrific storms, landing in countries fighting civil wars, getting stranded in Africa ...Jamba......90 day drug ops off the coast of venezuala.....6 month cruises...crossing the Atlantic in January, not seeing land for weeks.....crossing the Libyan Line of Death......totally unfazed..........

25 years ago i took a much smaller leap.........i left Brooklyn for good and moved to the open spaces of Monmouth County....closer to family but leaving all my friends......close to the Ocean, close to the racetrack, plenty of golf courses....but i had to commute to the city....and shortly after i arrived i was knocked out of my seat by the impact of a 767 hitting my building......the 2nd biggest shock of my life.....i went into defense mode and mentally shut down.....on my way home i thought about everyone i knew on the street and on the Cops or Fire and i assumed they had all perished..as calls rolled in for the next two weeks i just accepted the horrible news as confirmation.........perhaps spurred on by those events a few more friends came over the Goethals and did enjoy a wonderful 25 year run and i never regretted my time in Little Silver.......great yard, great pets, many parties.

last May i took another leap......this one felt different as i prepared to retire from Wall St after the summer ............but having turned 60 i am also putting up the defense system again, and i am very much aware that as i say goodbye to people....it could be the last time i see them...or the last time they see me..........not morbid....just realistic......i am excited to turn the page and see what lies ahead in the Palmetto state.........these days i sit in my new yard with my faithful companion (Matteau Matteau Matteau) and we  drink cold beer and listen to soothing sounds of the Grateful Dead and the piercing lyrics of Mr. Dylan......i will continue the Blog and hope to be back in time for Sweater Nite......but i know people make plans....and God sometimes has other ideas in mind.....if you can join us this year we would love to see ya, but if not we will understand.....stay safe....stay well.......hope to see you all down the road a spell.

as we were just about to go to press came the heartbreaking news out of Marin County that Bob Weir had passed away at the age of 78. Like so many of us, the Grateful Dead were born in 1965 ; and like so many of Gen X they swam against the current, went against the grain, refused to accept or acknowledge authority or generally give a flying fuck about anything........for Deadheads there was always Jerry.......and there was Bob......very different and distinct roles/parts they both played in the ongoing traveling circus that was the GD....the young, brash, energetic class clown to the stoic Maestro......and it worked .......the music and cult like following has extended for 60 plus years......and although the last bird has flown, we know the music will survive.......Farewell and following seas Bobby Ace, and THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for everything.

as the sun set over the western hemisphere on Friday January 2nd, the following statements were true.

60 Nations were on record for stating over the past 12 months that Nicholas Maduro was not the rightful President of Venezuela. They were in unison that the election results were fraudulent.

Chuck Schumer was on record from 2020 as criticizing the then Trump Administration for it's inability to remove Maduro from Power....calling Trumps Foreign policy with regard to Venezuala a "FLOP"

Sen Chris Murphy was on record from 2020 as calling then President Trumps foreign policy towards Venezuela a Failure that had strengthened Maduro because he was not removed from power.......in January of 2025 he doubled down and said the current Administration had to "stand with the people of Venezuela" which assumedly meant to remove Maduro.

The Left was steady in their NO Kings policy and did not support any dictators.

JC and Frankie were cracking cold Beers in Miami waiting for the Blueshirts to hit the ice at the Winter Classic.

This country has a real problem , and if we can't fix it soon; we are doomed.

I am talking about the large portion of the population that really is just plain stupid......i used to think it was willful ignorance.....people supported a certain candidate or party and did not want to hear or admit the negative.....that's a problem......but at least there was hope that deep down they knew the truth and eventually would come around. That is no longer the case.....people are dumb, they are easily influenced and want desperately to feel that A) they are a part of something big  and that B) they are on the good guys side.

On Friday we watched CBS news interviewing people on the street that were shocked to learn that:

1) Buses weren't now free

2) the Fares were actually increased on Jan 1

3) Mandani doesn't control the MTA has does not have the authority to make the buses free as he promised.

The sad part is the dingbat reporter seemed equally surprised and  referred to the fact that Mandani does not control the MTA as a "catch" .

Case 2....the same idiots that still live at home and want the rest of us to subsidize their health insurance premiums (ACA) are defending the Somali's in Minnesota and calling the investigation into this massive fraud as nothing more than a witch hunt .....they fail to see that maybe....just maybe....if we rooted at this and other massive frauds, they Govt might be able/willing to afford helping them pay for their insurance..

Case 3.....in the hours after the Army Delta team delivered Nicholas Maduro to Sunset Park, the same tired, ignorant, white privilege protestors took the street with pre made signs condemning blood for Oil and US Imperialism......these jackasses mustve been awoken in their mommy's basement by a George Soros Call to Arms.....and they rushed to Foley Square to join the fight......but it was almost shocking to see their reaction when some independent reporters showed them different footage. They had no response for film of the celebration in Caraccas when the Venezuelan People took the streets of their Capital to celebrate the over throw of a brutal dictator. It was as if they could not believe they weren't in lockstep with the people of South America.......they seemed disappointed that the whole continent wasn't chanting Death to America......

Stupid people.......arrogant and ignorant........but also illogical......just like Queers for Palastine or Chickens for KFC......they should try hating Trump from the basement, because whenever they take to the streets they parade their ignorance.
