Oct. 25, 2011
For the seventh year in a row, the United States Naval Academy is one of the top schools in the country for graduating NCAA student-athletes.

Navy graduated 100 percent of its student-athletes in six of the 20 NCAA sports reported on and averaged 96 percent for student-athletes in all sports. Navy’s overall graduation success rate of 96 percent was tied for fourth among all schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision and was the best among the three Service Academies. The national average for NCAA Division I student-athletes is 80 percent. The graduation success rate measures those student-athletes that were enrolled from 2001-04 and graduated within six years.

"Our student-athletes continually strive to set the standard on the playing fields, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall," said Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. "The support and encouragement they receive through the Commandant and his staff and the academic dean and all of our outstanding professors and instructors is extraordinary and provides tremendous motivation to be successful morally, mentally and physically. Our midshipmen clearly define the true meaning of student-athlete."

Highest Graduation Rates (All Sports/FBS Schools Only)
1. Notre Dame-99%
2. Duke-97%
Boston College-97%
4. Navy-96%
Northwestern-96%

sorry eggroll....it's a bad month for you guys on the blog....ever since i saw that photo in the NY Times of you and Rqandi Weingarten manning the soup line in zuccotti park, i couldn't resist.

weep no more....

the short lived life of CLUB GATO has come to an end, a dark day in our history, but we strive and hope to rebuild a better place to share a cocktail, a laugh and a tune....more to come....good night irene.

occupy college campus

you want to RAGE against something.....don't blame the banks that were virtually obligated to grant you those student loans or else be branded racist.....blame your parents for co-signing your future over to the banks....blame your high school guidance counselers for not suggesting less costly alternatives....blames the teachers and professors who command ridiculous salaries and send the costs of higher education soaring.......maybe Columbia,Harvard and all their high prices cousins are not for everyone.....maybe , just maybe some of these kids should have taken a part time job and went to Community College at Night to get a degree......or maybe those who live within their financial means should pay more for everything so we can forgive your student loans.

The amount of student loans taken out last year crossed
the $100 billion mark for the first time and total loans outstanding will exceed
$1 trillion for the first time this year. Americans now owe more on student
loans than on credit cards, reports the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
Students are borrowing twice what they did a decade ago
after adjusting for inflation, the College Board reports. Total outstanding debt
has doubled in the past five years a sharp contrast to consumers reducing
what's owed on home loans and credit cards.Taxpayers and other lenders have little risk of losing
money on the loans, unlike mortgages made during the real estate bubble.
Congress has given the lenders, the government included, broad collection
powers, far greater than those of mortgage or credit card lenders. The debt
can't be shed in bankruptcy
>The credit risk falls on young people who will start
adult life deeper in debt, a burden that could place a drag on the economy in
the future.
Students who borrow too much end up delaying life-cycle
events such as buying a car, buying a home, getting married (and) having
children," says Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of FinAid.org.
"It's going to create a generation of wage slavery," says
Nick Pardini, a Villanova University graduate student in finance who has warned
on a blog for investors that student loans are the next credit bubble — with
borrowers, rather than lenders, as the losers

Full-time undergraduate students borrowed an average
$4,963 in 2010, up 63% from a decade earlier after adjusting for inflation, the
College Board reports. What's happening
The portion of borrowers in
default more than nine months behind on payments rose from 6.7% in 2007 to
8.8% in 2009, according to the most recent federal data.

don't look now

but my Yellow Jackets of Ga Tech and the Fightin Illini are both 6-0 .......could this be the year of an ALL CAT BCS ????

side note.....although the allure of winning the big East and punchin a BCS ticket is tempting....I hope the Midshipmen of Navy decline the offer.

the protests

so the United Federation of Teachers is backing the Occupy Wall Street protesters.....which is interesting...because one of the demands of the quazi beatnik-trust fund scumbags is that they and all of the american youth receive free education.........WHY ? should a young American graduate from college with 120K in debit ?? it's not fair to start out adult life saddled with such enormous debt........well, maybe I am too stupid to understand....I am not a college grad after all.....But Maybe if the UFT and their brethren weren't commanding such ridiculous salaries for a few hours of work a few months out of the year the Universities wouldn't have to charge anywhere from 30 to 50K a year to learn how to hate your country, disrepect your military and worship Iran.......maybe if the freako lesbo self loathsome creep randi weingarten would take a stand and offer their teaching skills free of charge as an alternative to Gih Priced colleges ...these kids would have a fightin chance......maybe if they werent in bloombergs office every 2 years demandng pay increases and pension increases and smaller classrooms etc etc .....maybe our taxes wouldnt be suffocating the country.....i'm just askin.......in protest , i will not even use spellcheck on this post.......who needs teachers when we have spell check and big brother Barry to tell us right from wrong.

Wall Street Protests

2 quick hits cause i have a train to catch.

First....i find it funny that the unions joined the protests against wall street yesterday.....i know for a fact that every memeber of my staff would give me their 2 week notice in a second if there were ever able to get a UNION job....there are no pensions in my firm, we have always contributed significantly to our own health insurance and we can be let go or told to move out of state in the drop of a hat...maybe the protestors should look in the mirror.

Secondly.....nobody in the financial world actually works on wall street or lower manhattan anymore...in case these snot nosed kids missed it, the firms were all taxed into submission or murdered in a terrorist attack....wall street itself is all UNION BUILT condos......go to North Carolina or Fla or Texas if you want to protest brokerage firms you assholes.......or maybe you just want attention.

dancing like a witch doctor is still ok

so if you read it in the boxscore, your mind would conjure up a vision of Navy QB Kris Proctor dancin like a president in the end zone....tossin the football into the upper Deck and screaming "lookatme lookatme lookatme"......but the truth is far from that......make no mistake about it...i am NOT excusing him....his penalty cost us the game, and it is NOT the Navy way....but it was also quite tame (story below)......this is a rival game vs Air Force.....Navy trailed 21-3 at home and rallied back to force OT....Proctor barrels into the endzone for the go ahead touchdown, emotions are flaring in, he doesnt spike the ball....he doesn't do a dance, he doesn't throw a punch or remove his helmet, ...."He Says something"...and the Back Judge ?? is pretty sure it was #2............ok then.

After Kriss Proctor scored a one-yard touchdown in overtime to put Navy up 34-28, Proctor was flagged by back judge David Vaughan of the Big 12 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Navy was penalized 15 yards and then Air Force blocked Jon Teague's extra point.

Air Force scored on a Tim Jefferson one-yard run and Parker Herrington gave Air Force the win when he made the extra-point.

After the game Proctor was asked what he said.

"Some guy got in my way and I told him to move explicitly and he called it."

After the game the head referee, Mike Defee, talked to pool reporter Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times.

Q: What exactly was the specific call on that? What happened?

Mike Defee: The Navy player got in the face of an Air Force player right after the play.

Q: And which player was that?

Mike Defee: I think it was No. 2.

Q: And which official called it?

Mike Defee: It was the black judge.
