Blacks across the nation banged on makeshift drums and took to the streets to celebrate like it was a Juneteenth Block Party and the grill was running low on ribs n chicken. Equality....Finally....I do think affirmative action once played a role.....perhaps it was successful in extinguishing the flames of racism in certain schools or areas of the country....but after 50 years the pendulum had swung too far to the left and was now the rule that was created to end racism,  was in fact the most racist in the land.....it took merit out of the equation and placed skin color ...not just at the top of the list.....but the only item on the list.

The Preds have 13 picks.......7 in the first 3 rounds.......incoming GM Barry Trotz should have Nashville back in the finals in a few years.

perhaps it would be appropriate on the roof of Fenway Park, a good stones throw and a couple of kicks from the birthplace of Jack kerouac; that MY road with the Grateful Dead came to a conclusion.( I have mentally considered every show since the death of Jerry as potentially my last, cause you just never know) But this show was certainly the last time i would see Dead & Company together. I will certainly continue to see Bobby Ace & Mickey on stage in any form and with any other musicians he chooses to play, but i have grown fond of Oteil and Mayer, and who knows if I will see them again. (Jay Lane will always be a Wolf Brother and so i expect to see him , and Jeff Chimenti seems to keep popping up wherever Bobby goes and i am happy with that.)

So there i was in the splendid sunshine drinking an ice cold Beer at the Sam Adams bar  as Bobby opened the show with Cassidy....a song written about two Cassidy's....the old and the young....Cowboy Neal , aka Dean Moriarity....the troubled hero of Kerouacs' ON the Road as being lost now on the country miles in his Cadilac......and the young Child of Boundless trees.......There he goes, the passing of Neal........and here she starts, the newborn life........Eileen Law was the original Secretary-Office Admin etc etc for the Grateful Dead....after the musical players she was employee #1 for the Band. during her pregnancy Bob was working on this song.....and Barlow was working on the lyrics to match. when asked what names she had picked for her baby , she answered just one.....it's CASSIDY, whether it's a boy or girl.  And so the song continues about the passing of the torch, from driver of the Bus to this newborn little girl.....and as you looked around Fenway Park Saturday night you could see as many teens and pre-teens as old cowboys.....this band is certainly about the music , but it also is a phenomena that is hard to explain..........so hard that i stopped trying to explain my attachment to this band to non Deadheads.......Jerry summed it up years ago in a Rolling Stone inerview when he said "Deadheads are like people that like licorice.....not everyone likes licorice, but those who do ; REALLY like licorice"

I had to look it up....Fraunces Tavern Historical Society still sponsors the parade...but it was moved to Friday June 2nd this year, and it no longer goes up Wall Street from Water St, it looks like a short route down Broad Street from the Exchange to the Tavern......next year i intend to go......i will keep everyone posted well in advance.

years ago there was a bizarre movie with Jim Carey ( no JC, not Ace Ventura).....something about a spotless mind.....he breaks up with a girl and uses a new technology to go into his brain and erase all memories of her....frightening movie......but it feels like it may be playing out on the streets of manhattan.....everytime i turn around another institution has vanished.

I learnt yesterday that Diamond Jim Brady's on Maiden Lane did NOT survive the pandemic .....i passed by the bar back in 2021 and assumed they were opening later in the day, i did not realize at the time that sign on the door and the barroom inside was but a shrine to a forgotten time. I have talked about this watering hole several times over the years. It was not the bar i most frequented, but it had a knack for being there at special events. It's the characters that you remember , long after you've forgotten the story... I took the Series 7 Exam around the corner on William Street in the year of who knows when....There was a rule at the time that you had to take a 45 minutes break in the middle of the exam and physically leave the testing Center.  I was on a bit of roll and did not want to lose my Mojo, but rules are rules and so i left the building and started to stroll around downturn.....it was 10:45 on a Thursday.....i thought about a cup of coffee but decided no. I tried the door at Diamond Jims and sure it enough it was open....the Barman was wiping down the bar and restacking glasses.....he told me the kitchen would not be open till 11:30 and i told him i was just lookin for a quick pint or two........3 minutes later i was washing down a delicious pint of Guiness........13 minutes later i was on pint #2.....The Barman asked me what brought me into the Bar so early and i told him about my test.....he asked me if i passed and seemed amused when i told him that i had to go back to take the 2nd half......he told me to come back and let him know how i fared.....and about 2 hours later i was back in the fold enjoying another pint on the House and celebrating my new license. Jim Brady's was a solid, consistent Bar in the financial district...the owners and staff were good people....i hope they are well...the classic barrooms of NYC are an endangered species....it just feels to me like someone is taking an eraser to my life....so many of the haunts & Jaunts have gone away....were they ever here at all ?

asshat mayor adams is now promising free health care to illegal migrants......days after crying that the city is overwhelmed and can't afford any more , this clown is promising free health care to go along with your cell phone, 3 square meals and hotel room......NYC is using tax payer $$ to pay the Hilton-Financial Hotel on Washington Street 100K a week to house the law breakers from the south. The Barrel & Sauce restaurant across the street on Rector St has closed their doors for good and posted a letter to customers sighting the hotel as their downfall. Do we think the free health care plan will attract more or less migrants ?  yep, me too.

I am happy to report that the Back Bay Alehouse outdoor bar/patio was smoke free and open for business last night….spending a few days midweek in AC was a good decision…..eating and drinking like a barbarian and only down $20……..was going to put a few clams on the Pirates over the A’s but missed the first pitch because I was drinking at the toga bar and lost track of the time……..glanced up at the TV in the sports book to see 7-0 Oaktown in the 2nd…..that’s as good as a win for me……no news down here…..just wondering if that sissy Canadian prime minister has apologized to America yet ?

My phone was blowin up over the weekend........skaters from all over Brooklyn and the Jersey Shore were inquiring about the possibility of a Sweater Nite road trip to the swamps of Jersey. It seems the NHL has been spying on us and they went ahead and scheduled an Outdoor game between the Rangers-Islanders on the Sunday of Presidents day weekend......our traditional time slot. At Giants Stadium no less.....a Marquee game in NJ between two New York teams......classic....in fairness....most people think the devils moved to memphis 15 years ago.

Now there are many obstacles standing in the way of this diabolical plan coming to fruition. 

First..the evil NHL refused to announce start time for the game....that tells me it will of course be a Nite game.....and there is no way in hell i am going to an outdoor /nite game.

Second is the logistics and costs for buses and tickets....it tends to take some of the fun out of the day.

But most importantly was the chilling note i received from John Te' Jean Cadotte.

JC threatened a Sweater Nite Boycott that would make the Bud Light massacre look like a skate on the pond, or a walk in the park for you civilians. JC has always drawn the line and refused to sanction a move to the Garden State.....Just like Hari and Lev he thinks you need a passport to cross the VZ bridge.

The country may be on the brink of civil war , but the Sweater Nite extended family stands united.

Today of course is the Anniversary of D-Day......given the state of our country and the world that those men died to protect makes me sad to think about it....Thanks should be given from every corner of the earth....but it won't.

for the ridiculous record officials say a small cessna Jet with a pilot and 3 passengers was in route to Long Island from tennessee.....the Jet flew over restricted air space in the DC area........the plane approached the Long Island airport and then inexplicably turned around.......NORAD had  scrambled fighter after the plane flew over the Capitol and they were on his tail,  they said the pilot was not responding......the plane continued from Long Island to Virginia and then spiraled down to the wooded area below and crashed.....IT WAS NOT shot down.

The plane belonged to a TN man....he said his daughter, his 2 year old Grand Daughter and their Nanny were on board.

Norad....late on 9/11 costing us 3.000 lives......but plenty early to kill a woman and her child over the remote woods of Virginia.........oh well, i hope the news has plenty of highlights and heartwarming stories from the pride Parade.

we have talked a lot about the problems facing the Arizona Coyotes and their most likely relocation from the Desert . Well i hope that Chris Drury is on the phone with his counterpart in Tempe and preparing an offer should they decide to move Clayton Keller. At age 24 this young American is already a superstar , but he flies under the radar because nobody watches the YOTES. I am 1000% against book banning or censorship......let the readers read, and let them decide for themselves.....i do think age requirements are appropriate....as with the sale of alcohol, tobacco and or pornography.....but i hope that Murphy & Co are against all book banning , not just the flavor of the day....not just the transgender/homo alphabet soup group books.......i would hope Christian authors who talk about the sin of Homosexuality have their books on the shelves too......and White Supremacy, The Black on Black Slave trade in the Carribean, or American Exceptionalism ..Books that challenge the Moon landing or the Holocaust have a place too.........These Books too deserve to be read by anyone who chooses to do so..........but somehow i think Murphy's hair plugs would fall out if anyone tried to stock a school library with the books i mentioned.

i remember hanging out in Freds' Candy store and watching friends pump quarters into the video games.....asteroids...or some race car game and later days ms. pacman.....and i remember thinking that i would rather have an egg cream and a Hot Pretzel instead of wasting my money on video stupidity.

crime & punishment......but what if there is no punishment ?  what kind of society will we have when there are no consequences for your actions? where every life except your own is devalued and disregarded?

i'm not a gamer, but i do remember the brief uproar with the video game Grand Theft Auto...in their self description they said the "game" was brimming with gang violence, nudity, extremely coarse language, and drug and alcohol abuse. ..and i remember the old fuddy duddy warning that the game would have long lasting negative impacts on our youth.....and i remember the counter argument that it's just a game.....and it was the parents' responsibility to teach their children right from wrong......but what if there are no parents present in the home....or a home where the "adults" are substance abusers and or criminals themselves......who then should teach little juany that it's just a game, and you can't behave like this on the streets ?

what level of blatant disregard for human life drives another human to fire a bullet into the head of a 14 year old child? what action deserved this reaction ?  a dispute over Money, girls, gang colors, disrespect or fill in the blank ?

in a race to the bottom we seem to be saying how low can you go on a daily basis. I don't have any answers today......just a lot of questions.......and prayers for Little Owen and his extended family.

so congress passed the debt ceiling agreement overnight.....and more Demonrats voted YES than the Republicans that sponsored the bill in its original form ......is this a return to bipartisanship agreements that the majority of the country wants or is this Kevin Mcarthy getting played ? i will reserve judgement......i am not naive , but at some point their has to be a reversal of 100% partisanship....or the country will cease........honestly i care less and less with each passing day......i'll be dead before the country.....if nobody else seems to care, then why should i ?

i will say that had the country defaulted it could have been the final step to becoming a bananna republic....a nation has to honor their debt....but so too do the citizens of this country...and that includes college loans......if a young person in this country wishes to sue the Colleges for false advertising, for promising Professor Wagstaff and then delivering a student assistant  to teach the class....i support them........if they wish to sue their high school guidance counselors for planting unreal expectations and dreams in their under developed brains....have at it.........if they want a class action suit against the credit, unions, banks or whomever leant them the money and can prove predatory lending...go for it.........but that loan debt is still yours Buttercup......and in no way shape or form should the rest of the country pay your bills.

Technology aside......i don't see any bright spots in the economy.....the old adage was "sell in may and go away".........well i moved the bulk of my $$ to the sidelines from Sept of 22 until this past March.....

i'll keep collecting a decent return on money market and wait for the recession that may or may not come........i won't go back in the water until their is a significant drop or the Fed starts cutting rates......i have a funny feeling the stock drops happens in June.....we shall see.
