and so today the good people of the metropolitan area continue to mourn the death of two police officers, the good people see the only color that matters in this story....BLUE........we would feel no differently if the two police officers murdered had been black, middle eastern or polka dotted......... we would feel no differently if the shooter had been irish, italian or scandinavian....because we stand with the police, we appreciate the dangerous job every single one of them does on a daily basis and we grieve when they are killed............on the other side of the fence we have animals that are angry that the cops that were killed weren't white enough, and judges that release these animals without bail.........and the anti-gun left wonders why so many in this country insist on owning their own weapons.......we are living  in a progressively lawless era, and most people have little to zero confidence in the government to adequately protect this nation "from ourselves" , let alone a foreign threat.

and on the news this morning they are interviewing scores of law enforcement from around the nation.....Men & Women.....White & Black......every nationality......from California, Georgia, Texas, Maine etc etc.......people who left their homes on Christmas Day to drive to Queens to pay respect to a fallen brother....a brother they never met, but respect and honor because of the badge, and the common situation they are all in together........

and the Commander in Chief ?  he couldn't suspend a round of golf to have a press conference in hawaiia to talk about these two officers.....let alone, God Forbid, fly back to attend a funeral......I guess officer Ramos couldn't be his son like he said about  Treyvon.   ..............yep, race is only a factor when it suits them.

Once in my life when I got married , I took 14 days off.....and went to aruba for 8 of those days, but the rest of my life its been 9 days.......5 work days sandwiched by two weekends....but thats a rarity..... Usually just take extended weekends.....

To shake his hand and pat him on the pads ( he was 3 for 3 before the miss).........then the two coaches at midfield..... A hand shake and a 20 second conversation......... Apparently no trash talk FM either side.......the game was marred by turnovers and coach Ken said afterwards " we were very lucky to escape with a W"...........that type of sportsmanship will NEVER get you hired as an analyst on TV my friend.......they only want murderers, rapist and wife beaters.

Minnesota (who i love) did not beat any ranked teams and was crushed by TCU 30-7
Nebraska did not beat any ranked team, best win was over an unranked 6-5  Miami

and Ohio State beat Navy, Kent State and Cincy and LOST at home to Virginia Tech.

Interesting article about George Brett & Steinbrenner the other day in the Post....I never knew Brett's Dad was from Brooklyn and his siblings were born in Bayridge.... He mentioned how he used to visit his grandmother on Ovington Ave & 4th ave during the late 70',s and ,1980's.......and when Brett's Dad was terminally ill , he went back to visit NYC one last time and the Boss had a driver and a Town Car at his disposal to take him wherever he wanted to go.........thats a classy move .

Then, he went on to talk about “violent extremism” (he never mentioned “Islamic extremism”).  But after talking about terrorism and “taking action against immediate threats,” Obama transitioned to calling out America’s “failure” and “our own racial and ethnic tensions” in “the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri.”

in the sentence right before President Obama’s Ferguson comment in front of 191 other countries, the president said, “In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri . . .”

Morally equating the events of Ferguson to Islamic terrorism and Russia’s annexation of Crimea gives foreign diplomats from Arab countries and Russia the excuse they need to dismiss America’s condemnation of their actions.

For anyone thinking that President Obama didn’t purposefully mean to equate the world’s problems with the events in Ferguson, two sentences later Obama blamed globalization for the public’s outrage in Ferguson:  “And like every country, we continually wrestle with how to reconcile the vast changes wrought by globalization…”

I bought a Weber 6 burner gas grill in 2001, a few months after we adopted Gravey..... For the next 13 years I grilled 10 or 11 months out of the year and 99% of the time Gravey stood by my side or laid in the Grass and observed like a safety inspector... On the coldest or rainiest days she would watch from the window.....not because she was afraid of the elements but because Valerie overruled us...I used to show her the food before it went on the grill so she would know what to expect..... Like a waiter showing a customer a $200 bottle of red wine......she'd wag her tail in approval..... She never had to beg because there was "always" something for Gravey.....we used to repackage the meat from Costco into smaller zip lock bags for three (me,val n graves).......last Sunday Sept 7th...before we knew she was sick, I was grilling chicken burgers and she was snoozing in the grass and the main support for the grill surface collapsed..... It scared both of us....I was Able to keep cooking on 2 burners but the rest of the grill was caput......"thats it pal" I told her..."time for a new grill....maybe if we're good Sanity Clause will bring us one at Christmas ".........I am real sorry she won't be around next spring when I Christen a new grill.

On September 12th 2001, i stood on my back deck...nervous, anxious, afraid, still in shock...i wasn't sure if i could go on, i didn't think there would ever be reason again to smile, let alone laugh.......i drank my beer in silence, hung my head....my dog Gravey had only been with us 6 months, but she stayed glued to my side and whenever i wanted to cry she licked my face.....i took a lot of days off in the 6 months that followed and we spent a lot of time sitting in the silence of the yard...she mirrored my every move, laid at my feet and listened to me as i talked to myself....she got me through the toughest stretch of my life.and through her silliness helped me to smile, and laugh and have great, Great times again......my wife Valerie  rescued Gravey from a life on the streets, she had cigar burns on her body , had kennel cough and was eating out of a dumpster, Valerie called me from the Pet adoption center at Petsmart and said "she Has great big brown eyes, and she Loves me"...thats all i needed to know......we took her in, she slept in a King sized bed, ate like a Queen and ruled her Yard like a land Barron.....and it breaks, breaks, BREAKS  my heart to say Goodbye to her today! .......like all dogs she provided unconditional love...she was delighted to see me every night i came home...she.never got mad about a text or held a grudge...her biggest crime was stealing the covers on cold nights or hogging the best seat on the couch at Movie time...(occasionally she got aggressive with Messier if mess got to close to one of her 475 rawhide bones scattered around the house) .I spent the day with her yesterday and although she was failing terribly, we managed a walk by the river and i  followed her around the yard and tried to repay the favor from so many years ago...you wont read her obituary in the Times, but she will be missed by her Cat Sister Messier, (predeceased by Fuzzy Cat & Jedmo) Valerie and I and countless family and friends...she had some real special dog sitters over the years..Nanny, Aunt Mary, Uncle Steve O'Dowd, Katie, Breanne, Aunt Carlene Sanchez and cousin Pat Molloy.......she was so very proud of her Dancing Bears leash, her Steal Your Face Collar and all her licenses and rabies shot medals on her collar ...her familiar jingle jangle will be missed in that yard ( i dont think she ever realized that Valerie loaded her down with medallions so she COULDN'T sneak up on Birdies at the bird feeder)..she was a well liked Pooch and she was chock full of personality.....did i say we rescued her ?  yes, well its obvious she rescued US more......Rest In Peace Gravey...we love and miss you and will never forget you...say hi to snoopy for me pal.

I was playing Wiffle Ball with the Lads on the Hockey Courts near the Parkie House on 79^th street and Shore Road……icey cold can of the world renowned Budweiser Beer in my hand……still a few years shy of the bayridge drinking age of 13, but me and my Band of Brothers were  very mature for 11 year olds……we were certainly chatting about the Metropolitans baseball Club and perhaps the upcoming Bicentennial Celebration for our beloved Nation and all pomp and circumstance that was about to descend on the shores of South Brooklyn, and then like being struck by lightning I froze in my tracks, turned towards the benches were a group of lads and lasses were gathered round a radio and I strained my ear to hear a sound I had never heard before. I stood there mesmerized for a minute and change and asked my Compadre Steve Mcevoy  “WHO is THAT” ?....to which he replied “ The Grateful Dead”………(Sugar Magnolia to be exact…still my favorite song of all time to this day)…….I didn’t grasp the intensity of the moment, but my Life was about to Change….the very next day I emptied out my Chock Full of Nuts Coffee can bank and walked up to 86^th street and the Whole in the Wall Record store to purchase American Beauty…..I played the Album in its entirety, both sides without leaving the room, I would never look at the World the same way again, and then embarked on a lifetime Journey Down that Golden Road with Jerry Garcia and the Lads…….97 Grateful Dead Concerts, 100 more of solo shows and various collaborations in the post Jerry years Countless Cities, Motels, Road Trips and adventures on the Road…….through my days in the Navy & Wall Street, from Brooklyn to the Jersey Shore and everywhere in between, the DEAD have provided the soundtrack to my Life…..and on this day August 1^st,  what would have been Jerry Garcia’s 72^nd Birthday, I am eternally Grateful.

KOGELO, Kenya -- Barack Obama's Kenyan family erupted in cheers Wednesday, singing "We are going to the White House!" as their relative became the first African-American to be elected U.S. president, they proceeded to feast on chitlins, wild boar ribs and a local brew similar to it's American cousin "RIPPLE".

In the western village of Kogelo, where the president-elect's late father was born, police had to tighten security to prevent hordes of media and others from entering the rural homestead of Obama's step-grandmother, Shineeh.

Across Africa -- where Obama is wildly popular -- people stayed up all night or woke before dawn Wednesday to watch the U.S. election results roll in. In the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, people chanted "Unga Bunga Bunga Obama!" as the results were announced on television.

"He's sooo black...and moslem!" said Rachel Ndimu, 23, a business student who joined hundreds of others at the residence of the U.S. ambassador for an election party that began at 5 a.m. "I think this is awesome, and the whole world is backing him."

Many people hope an Obama presidency will help this vast continent, the poorest in the world. Some are looking for more U.S. aid to Africa, others simply bask in the glory of a successful black politician with African roots.

Obama was born in Hawaii, where he spent most of his childhood sniffing glue and burning the uS Flag. He barely knew his late father. But that has not stopped "Obamamania" from sweeping the continent, and particularly Kenya, where charcoal sketches of him adorn billboards and minibuses.

Hundreds of chanting people marched through the streets of Kibera shineytown, one of Africa's largest slums, cheering Obama's win.

Samuel Ouma, 36, said Obama's victory alleviated some of the pain suffered in December after Kenya's disatrous presidential election, which unleashed weeks of violence here.

"We finally have got the stolen election," he said.

His friend, Kennedy Obdiero, added: "God has rewarded us triplefold."

Gibson Gaitho, 14, said he does not believe an Obama presidency will change his life much, but he said he is inspired by the rise of a man with Kenyan roots. "Who knows, maybe someday we can even play in the NHL."

"As Kenyans we feel like absolute spooks," said Gaitho, whose teachers at Mangu Unga Bunga Denis Nolan High School in Thika brought the students to watch the results as they poured out of big chimney in sky before heading back to class on a school donkey later Wednesday.

"But we know Obama will be working for Al Queda," said Gaitho, who was wearing his traditional orange jumpsuit.

Maybe spoonjiah can enlighten me.... Why should hobby lobby and other corporations have to supply contraceptives FREE of charge?...how are birth control pills different from everything else..,.and how did this discussion get hijacked and turned into a debate about women's rights...... Last I checked hobby lobby and other business were not forbidding their employees from using birth control... But rather were merely objecting to paying for it.....it's not the equivalent of refusing to pay for life saving cancer treatment and drugs that save lives.
This is Pro Choice... A woman can choose to have sex with any creature she wants these days... ...even a goat if she chooses... But if she doesn't want a litter of calves (baby goats for you brooklynites that have never seen a farm)..then she has to buy birth control and WE or Hobby lobby should not have to pay for it.

I drink a lot....that's my free choice... As such I tend to get brutal hangovers on occasion.... Should I be entitled to free Tylenol?... Should non drinkers who are iny my healthcare system pay higher premiums to offset my monthly Advil intake ?

shocking news out of Philadelphia last night.....young Canadian Hockey Player Michael Dal Colle took his life by hanging himself in his hotel room shortly before midnight.  Friends and familt described the 18 year old  as a happy go luck kid without a care in the world....."the most upbeat person you could ever meet" said his father when he learnt of the news. "Michael was so excited about the NHL draft where he was projected as a top 1st round pick.

Police are looking into motives.....he had in his posession a loosing Mega Millions $1 quick pick ticket, which could have depressed him and a witness saw him step into a puddle earlier in the day when getting out of a taxi and he seemed angered by that.............oh....and he was drafted by the Icefag Islanders with the 5th pick of the draft.

in an unrelated story Joshua Ho Sang was found in another room in that same hotel dead from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the head........in an ironic twist....Sang was the Iceladies 2nd pick of last nights draft.

tenure for teachers

so Mayor Deblasio and Randi weingarten are arguing that to eliminate tenure for teachers in NY is a Bad thing ( a similar law just won approval in Los Angeles i believe) because it would make it harder to attract good talent ??

I argue just the opposite, to eliminate tenure would not deter a talented teacher for accepting a job in the NY school system, BUT it might deter that slacker who wants 3 months vacation and is willing to perform at an acceptable standard until they achieve tenure ( and then revert back to being a slacker).........lets be honest, the factors that attract a large % of current teachers are the Hours & the Pay, the pensions and the job protection....thats a superfecta that doesnt really exist in any other field or profession in this millenium.

but if Tenure is such a good thing, why don't we offer it all civil servants......Cops, Fireman, Sanitation etc etc......why can they still be dismissed for not performing at an acceptable level ? i am confused....why can't i get tenure on Wall Street instead of facing the constant reality of downsizing or the possibility my job may move across the country at a moments notice ?  why are the teachers different than the rest of society in being held accountable for their individual job performance ?

This may be the straw that breaks the camel jockey's back...this prisoner swap is very ugly...it is naive to think that this was our last chance to get bergdahl alive...as Obama gave as his reason for bypassing congress... They had him for 5yrs ....they wanted something in exchange.... Why kill the only bargaining chip you have ? They wouldn't....... Although bergdahl deserves his day in court.... All signs point to willful desertion.... And NOT capture......he was dissallusioned with the war effort and tired of being a soldier.... Or so it would seem......at least 2 soldiers lost their lives trying to "rescue" bergdahl.... Dozens were injured.........congress may have had an issue with swapping 5 terrorists for this guy...OR at least voiced their concerns....... Barry didn't want that.......the Taliban picked the 5 guys they wanted released, so its pretty safe to assume these guys are of significance..... Obama said through a spokesman that they posed NO THREAT to America in the future... But reports surfaced yesterday that he was advised by the CIA and Military Intelligence NOT to release these particular folks......today Obama recanted and admitted they may again take up arms against the U.S.   ...........sounds like grounds for impeachment to me.

parting is such sweet sorrow

it is with a great deal of sadness that i must pass on the news that the final souvenier from the great Raids on Montreal~ has died.........the ashtray from the Maritime Hotel, a true fan favorite from the outdoor bar at Club Gato is no longer with us.........her passing was a swift as it was shocking.....one moment she was resting on the ledge of the Bar while Val and I shared a Beer watching the Rangers......and the next minute she  lay shattered in a million pieces on the patio....we arent sure if she took her own life and leapt off the bar to her death...or perhaps was startled by a Barking Dog who will forever remain nameless....but the fact is ....SHE IS GONE........a little piece of my past died with that ashtray...........perhaps its a sign from the Gods of Alcohol Abuse that it is time to return to the aforementioned Maritime Hotel ??

DANZA  i screamed to nobody in particular as i awoke from the party with a brutal hangover......i think the VICARS IN TROUBLE, and how could he not be after that INTENSE HOLIDAY.....not just any party mind you, but HARRY'S HOLIDAY.........I sure hope UNCLE SIGH got home okay after takin that RIDE ON CURLIN.....I knew we were in trouble when GENERAL A ROD decided it was time to TAPITURE that fresh Keg at 3:00 a.m..........CHITU ! i screamed...those Brews were WICKED STRONG.....a mans brew, certainly not meant for a CANDY BOY.....it was a good thing we chased them down with shots of WILDCAT RED before the big wiffle ball game.....VINCEREMOS had great control of his COMMANDING CURVE in that strong breeze off the coast of PABLO DEL MONTE.....i am not even sure what the MEDAL COUNT was , but they were made of beautiful CALIFORNIA CHROME.....as the game came to a conclusion in extra innings it was apparent to all just how much WE MISS ARTIE....but the moral is when you DANCE WITH FATE it ultimately lead you to the promised land of SAMRAAT.

Who's next ?  Boston or Phoenix need a regime change because they draft too many white guys ?.......Utah has to sell to someone willing to relocate the team cause we don't like Mormon values ? .......jay zee gotta sell cause he uses the N word ?........where does it end ? As a black female and former Secretary of State you would think she qualifies as A role model and double minority.......but maybe blacks don't want their daughters to aspire to such greatness....... Maybe there OK with them being Jayzee "bitches and Ho's"...... Guinness has withdrawn their sponsorship of the NYC Saint Patrick's Day Parade....and that is their right.
And it is the right of All Irish Americans to exercise their rights and boycott Guinness Beer.

the only possible explanation woould be that one or both of these Iranians that were trying to flee for asylum were way too important for the Iranian Govt to loose.....IE they knew something BIG, probably Nuclear Program Big , and the Iranian version of the CIA tracked them to this flight and Had to bring it down .
