as promised

apparently left leaning CBS decided to edit this out of the 60 minutes episode last sunday......even they were embarassed by this delusional , condescending prick.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, we’re not done yet. I’ve got five more years of stuff to do. But not only saving this country from a great depression. Not only saving the auto industry. But putting in place a system in which we’re gonna start lowering health care costs and you’re never gonna go bankrupt because you get sick or somebody in your family gets sick. Making sure that we have reformed the financial system, so we never again have taxpayer-funded bailouts, and the system is more stable and secure. Making sure that we’ve got millions of kids out here who are able to go to college because we’ve expanded student loans and made college more affordable. Ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Decimating al Qaeda, including Bin Laden being taken off the field. Restoring America’s respect around the world.

Merry Christmas

since I am well aware that at least one of the blog followers is a J E T S fan, I thought i should offer one and all a Very Merry Christmas now......cause all bets are OFF after kick-off.........i also have a very disturbing quote from the commander in chief...but I dont want to spoil anyones Christmas....so I will repost that on Monday....delusionally frightening stuff...

dissapointing

the memorial.....although visually pleasing.....was an overall dissapointment.......security was disgraceful.....i was made to feel like a common criminal or terrorist, what should have been a reflective day , instead evoked anger....the final salt in the wound was that the Northeast Corner of the 1 WTC footprint was roped off because of wind......the one piece of real estate i had a strong desire to return to was off limits......tourists muggin it up for photo ops turned my stomach and i left after only four or five minutes......very disaapointing.

back ta zero

Youre not the only one
With mixed emotions
Youre not the only ship
Adrift on this ocean
Youre not the only one
That's feeling lonesome
Youre not the only one
With mixed emotions (jagger~richards)

and so it is indeed with mixed emotions that i return to the scene of the crime after 10 years , three months and a few days....today i will ( i think) visit the memorial at the former site of the world trade center.....although i have been downtown and on the perimiter these past ten years, i have not had the oppurtunity to return to the footprints of 1 world trade . i ahve a pass for a 10:30 visit and i hope to follow through on it and pay my respects. ( although this whole govt police state and assigned time slots makes me sick to my stomach, i will leave my grievances against LMDC aside for today and try to keep my angst in check).

follow that up with an 11:45 reservation for a steak in Mark Josephs and an afternoon of bar-hopping / reminiscing in the financial district and we have ourselves quite a friday......

i will check back in tomorrow with a full report.

no more tailgating

mark my words.....the nfl will use the recent beating of a jet fan in the Giant Stadium parking lot to eventually ban alcohol consumption in the parking lots before games......impossible ?? just wait.

The truth is it kills these teams to know that the fans can pack coolers and drink beer for 5 hours before kickoff and aside from the $25 parking fine, they don't see a dime.....they will use the violence to their advantage and ban booze in the lots......

then to show that their good eggs, and care about the fans, they will open the doors to the stadium 3 or 4 hours before the game....and they will sell you ALL THE BOOZE you can afford....but they will justify that by saying its regulated and we don't serve intoxicated people....this will protect all the fans and line the owners pockets.....come in and tailgate at the seats with $9 beers and $10 greasy hamburgers.

sounds crazy ? fans will revolt ? nobody will go to the games ? blah, blah, blah.......i hope i am wrong , but i know i am not.......

Elena Kagan & obamacare

it is uncomprehensible to imagine elena kagan sitting their with a straight face and NOT recuseing herself from the supreme court hearings on the constitutionality of certain parts of obamacare. As a member of the obama administration , kagan was involved in planning the legal defense of the law , and now we are supposed to believe she is going to listen to the arguments unbiased ? this is the only reason barry hussein appointed her to the bench , and yet we never even hear the debate on TV......too wound up over lamar and chloe getting traded to dallas i suppose.

not dead yet

the mighty squids were left for dead after getting crushed by ND in south bend a few weeks.....dropping to 2-6 and seeing their 9th straight bowl appearance in serious jeapordy.....but alas they have won 2 in a row and if the can beat San Jose State on the road today it will bring them back to 5-6 with 1 game to play.......and who should be in a position to prevent that .500 record and a bowl bid?.....ARMY! of course.......could make for some interesting side bars when these foes take to the pitch @ Fedex field.........there is the business of SJ St first.....4:00 start on ESPN3 ...whatever the heck that channel is.

but I have been very wrong before.

winning is contagious

so the St. Louie Cardinals took their World Series Trophy to the Rams Vs Saints Game and lo and behold the winless Spagnolas notch their first victory over the mighty invaders from N~orlens......

Last Night, Cornball Larusa donned a Blues Sweater and took the trophy to the Checker Dome ( remember that arena) and inspired the blue Notes to rise up and beat the hated and heavily favored Canuckleheads de los vancoooover.

it's in that spirit of contagious victory that i am going to monmouth Park for the breeders and hope that Clancy's good fortune will ruboff on me and I actually hit a few races.......alas, i will be accompanied by the Great Cooler...the Jinx of Higgins.....it will be a battle of wills.....does Clancy force us to raise our game and pick a few winners......OR....more likely......Do we drag Dermott down to the muck and mire and loosing on photo finishes, tossed Jockeys and stewards inquiries....? time will tell

back in a few hours with my picks of the day.

Naval Academy Fourth In The Country For Graduating Student-Athletes
Navy graduates 96 percent of its student-athletes

John Dowd is a two-time Academic All-American

Oct. 25, 2011
For the seventh year in a row, the United States Naval Academy is one of the top schools in the country for graduating NCAA student-athletes.

Navy graduated 100 percent of its student-athletes in six of the 20 NCAA sports reported on and averaged 96 percent for student-athletes in all sports. Navy’s overall graduation success rate of 96 percent was tied for fourth among all schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision and was the best among the three Service Academies. The national average for NCAA Division I student-athletes is 80 percent. The graduation success rate measures those student-athletes that were enrolled from 2001-04 and graduated within six years.

"Our student-athletes continually strive to set the standard on the playing fields, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall," said Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. "The support and encouragement they receive through the Commandant and his staff and the academic dean and all of our outstanding professors and instructors is extraordinary and provides tremendous motivation to be successful morally, mentally and physically. Our midshipmen clearly define the true meaning of student-athlete."

good news for HIGHER learning

a whopping 25% of NYC high school graduates are actually prepared for collegiate level education in their freshman year......obviously we need to raise taxes, throw a few more billion at the problem, make smaller classrooms, blah, b;ah, b;ah.......and the UFT is laughin all the way to the bank because all of their contractual obligations are driven by graduation rate......CHECK !

sorry eggroll....it's a bad month for you guys on the blog....ever since i saw that photo in the NY Times of you and Rqandi Weingarten manning the soup line in zuccotti park, i couldn't resist.

Honorable eggroll is beside himself with anger over recent bloggin by yours truly, he called me at 3:00 a.m. ranting and raving like a madman, or a higgins.....about the unfair treatement i have offerded the teachers of this nation.....if i didn't know better i would have surmised that Das Strovika hand ended his two decade old boycott of Barley Wine Hopps and friends.....i told him, that like the Great Goofer pat Moran, I am binded by a strong urge to get the truth out....and a desire to go back to McSorleys and order 18 lights and 18 darks please....

3) thank God it wasn't Dylan.....when I first saw moamar being dragged through the streets with a bullet in his head I thought it was Bob.
4)we hated him......we forgave him ( strange)....we hated him again.....we killed him......boy are we a fucked up nation...

weep no more....

the short lived life of CLUB GATO has come to an end, a dark day in our history, but we strive and hope to rebuild a better place to share a cocktail, a laugh and a tune....more to come....good night irene.

occupy college campus

you want to RAGE against something.....don't blame the banks that were virtually obligated to grant you those student loans or else be branded racist.....blame your parents for co-signing your future over to the banks....blame your high school guidance counselers for not suggesting less costly alternatives....blames the teachers and professors who command ridiculous salaries and send the costs of higher education soaring.......maybe Columbia,Harvard and all their high prices cousins are not for everyone.....maybe , just maybe some of these kids should have taken a part time job and went to Community College at Night to get a degree......or maybe those who live within their financial means should pay more for everything so we can forgive your student loans.

The amount of student loans taken out last year crossed
the $100 billion mark for the first time and total loans outstanding will exceed
$1 trillion for the first time this year. Americans now owe more on student
loans than on credit cards, reports the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
Students are borrowing twice what they did a decade ago
after adjusting for inflation, the College Board reports. Total outstanding debt
has doubled in the past five years a sharp contrast to consumers reducing
what's owed on home loans and credit cards.Taxpayers and other lenders have little risk of losing
money on the loans, unlike mortgages made during the real estate bubble.
Congress has given the lenders, the government included, broad collection
powers, far greater than those of mortgage or credit card lenders. The debt
can't be shed in bankruptcy
>The credit risk falls on young people who will start
adult life deeper in debt, a burden that could place a drag on the economy in
the future.
Students who borrow too much end up delaying life-cycle
events such as buying a car, buying a home, getting married (and) having
children," says Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of FinAid.org.
"It's going to create a generation of wage slavery," says
Nick Pardini, a Villanova University graduate student in finance who has warned
on a blog for investors that student loans are the next credit bubble — with
borrowers, rather than lenders, as the losers

Full-time undergraduate students borrowed an average
$4,963 in 2010, up 63% from a decade earlier after adjusting for inflation, the
College Board reports. What's happening
The portion of borrowers in
default more than nine months behind on payments rose from 6.7% in 2007 to
8.8% in 2009, according to the most recent federal data.

don't look now

but my Yellow Jackets of Ga Tech and the Fightin Illini are both 6-0 .......could this be the year of an ALL CAT BCS ????

side note.....although the allure of winning the big East and punchin a BCS ticket is tempting....I hope the Midshipmen of Navy decline the offer.

the protests

so the United Federation of Teachers is backing the Occupy Wall Street protesters.....which is interesting...because one of the demands of the quazi beatnik-trust fund scumbags is that they and all of the american youth receive free education.........WHY ? should a young American graduate from college with 120K in debit ?? it's not fair to start out adult life saddled with such enormous debt........well, maybe I am too stupid to understand....I am not a college grad after all.....But Maybe if the UFT and their brethren weren't commanding such ridiculous salaries for a few hours of work a few months out of the year the Universities wouldn't have to charge anywhere from 30 to 50K a year to learn how to hate your country, disrepect your military and worship Iran.......maybe if the freako lesbo self loathsome creep randi weingarten would take a stand and offer their teaching skills free of charge as an alternative to Gih Priced colleges ...these kids would have a fightin chance......maybe if they werent in bloombergs office every 2 years demandng pay increases and pension increases and smaller classrooms etc etc .....maybe our taxes wouldnt be suffocating the country.....i'm just askin.......in protest , i will not even use spellcheck on this post.......who needs teachers when we have spell check and big brother Barry to tell us right from wrong.

Wall Street Protests

2 quick hits cause i have a train to catch.

First....i find it funny that the unions joined the protests against wall street yesterday.....i know for a fact that every memeber of my staff would give me their 2 week notice in a second if there were ever able to get a UNION job....there are no pensions in my firm, we have always contributed significantly to our own health insurance and we can be let go or told to move out of state in the drop of a hat...maybe the protestors should look in the mirror.

Secondly.....nobody in the financial world actually works on wall street or lower manhattan anymore...in case these snot nosed kids missed it, the firms were all taxed into submission or murdered in a terrorist attack....wall street itself is all UNION BUILT condos......go to North Carolina or Fla or Texas if you want to protest brokerage firms you assholes.......or maybe you just want attention.

dancing like a witch doctor is still ok

so if you read it in the boxscore, your mind would conjure up a vision of Navy QB Kris Proctor dancin like a president in the end zone....tossin the football into the upper Deck and screaming "lookatme lookatme lookatme"......but the truth is far from that......make no mistake about it...i am NOT excusing him....his penalty cost us the game, and it is NOT the Navy way....but it was also quite tame (story below)......this is a rival game vs Air Force.....Navy trailed 21-3 at home and rallied back to force OT....Proctor barrels into the endzone for the go ahead touchdown, emotions are flaring in, he doesnt spike the ball....he doesn't do a dance, he doesn't throw a punch or remove his helmet, ...."He Says something"...and the Back Judge ?? is pretty sure it was #2............ok then.

After Kriss Proctor scored a one-yard touchdown in overtime to put Navy up 34-28, Proctor was flagged by back judge David Vaughan of the Big 12 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Navy was penalized 15 yards and then Air Force blocked Jon Teague's extra point.

Air Force scored on a Tim Jefferson one-yard run and Parker Herrington gave Air Force the win when he made the extra-point.

After the game Proctor was asked what he said.

"Some guy got in my way and I told him to move explicitly and he called it."

After the game the head referee, Mike Defee, talked to pool reporter Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times.

Q: What exactly was the specific call on that? What happened?

Mike Defee: The Navy player got in the face of an Air Force player right after the play.

Q: And which player was that?

Mike Defee: I think it was No. 2.

Q: And which official called it?

Mike Defee: It was the black judge.

did i say palastine ?

so last year the emperor and chief stood before the un , wagged his finger and declared the that this year we would be celebrating a new member of the international community.....palastine..........he went on to publicly attack our Israeli allies and "matter of factly" stated that the peace accord must begin with a return to the pre 1967 borders......he criticized Israel for building settlements for their people on the their own land ( won in a war, just like the continental United States were taken away from King George in a war) and have the audacity to dream of a day when Israel was allowed to exist.

it sounded good.....was quite the sound bite that the liberal news ate for breakfast and it meant fukin squat.

This week the spoonjiah is again wagging his finger, this time mocking palastine for requesting statehood and recognition from the un , lecturing us all that peace can only come from within, not from some silly un acknowledgement...."if it did, it would be done already" he smirked and laughed.......oh allah, he is sooo smart and aren't we lucky he shares his insight with us pleebs.......he then went on to pat himself on the back for the UN lead forces that toppled khadaffy....but he forgot to mention our good friends in egypt, who were also kicked to the curb...slipped his mind.....he forgot to mention Hillary's friend that "great Reformer" in syria, who continues to slaughter his opposition by the bushel.....slipped his mind.....and he forgot to mention our dear cousins the saudis...who promised a 200 million dollar loan to palastine to furthur (not bob weir) their statehood plans.......a mind is a terrible thing to waste mister president.

i am waiting for him to declare that the official language is now sweedish and that underwear should be worn on the outside........anyday now

there used to be a bar room here...

Wake of the Flood.

Sad Day

yesterday was an extremely sad day at 42 edgewood ave, along with thousands of water logged photos, yearbooks, programs, keepsakes and all that had to be hauled to the curb for garbage pickup, the love seat that was the first piece of furniture that Val i bought together, and saddest of all was the bed in the guest room off Club Gato...the bed was the resting place of more A List Celebs than the Lincoln Bedroom in the White House....countless friends ,family and pets slept in that bed over the past ten years...and now it lies at the end of the car port waiting for the sanmen to take her away.

irene

Once I thought I saw you
in a crowded hazy bar,
Dancing on the light
from star to star.
Far across the moonbeam
I know that's who you are,
I saw your brown eyes
turning once to fire.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away

Strange But True

MIDDLETOWN NJ MAN INJURED DOING VOLUNTEER WORK !

Members of the Verizon Volunteers were out in force at their beloved Citifield last Night, but one man: Donn Hoffman of Middletown NJ got more than he bargained for. It seems the red-shirters were putting us slabs of plywood over the windows of their hospitality suite at Citifield and protect it, and themselves, from the fast approaching Hurricane Irene. Hoffman suffered significant swelling to his right thumb, but it remains unclear if he hit it with a hammer or it got jammed in the boat cooler. The Braves got hammered and so did our favorite group of Communication Workers, hopefully everyone made it home in time to ice down coolers before the power goes out.

Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night
Enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall
She sees the bartender in a pool of blood
Cries out, “My God, they killed them all!”
Here comes the story of the Hurricane
The man the authorities came to blame
For somethin’ that he never done
Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been

let em eat cake eh spoony ?

FIRST LADY OF LUXURY TRAVEL: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE OBAMAS' LAVISH GETAWAYS OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS
GIRLS' TRIP TO SPAIN: AUGUST 2010

The exact cost is unclear as Mrs Obama and her 40 friends footed many personal expenses, such as hotels and meals themselves.
But the U.S. taxpayer would have paid for the First Lady's 68-strong security detail, personal staff, and use of presidential jet Air Force Two.
Per diems for the secret service team runs at around $281 each - nearly $98,000 for the length of the summer break.

Use of Air Force Two, the Air Force version of a 757, comes in at $149,900 for the round trip. This does not include time on the ground.

Mrs Obama's personal staff, of which there are an unknown amount and might cost considerably more per day, should also be taken into account.

CHRISTMAS BREAK IN HAWAII: DECEMBER 2010

According to the Hawaii Reporter, the bill for the $1.5m trip included:

$63,000 on an early flight bringing Mrs Obama and the children to Hawaii ahead of the President.
$1,000,000 on Mr Obama’s return trip from Washington on Air Force One.
$38,000 for the ‘Winter White House’ beach property rental.
$16,000 to rent nearby homes for Secret Service and Navy Seals.
$134,000 for 24 White House staff to stay at the Moana Hotel.
$251,000 in police overtime.
$10,000 for an ambulance to be on hand at all times

SKI TRIP TO VAIL: FEBRUARY 2011

Mrs Obama and her daughters stayed at the Sebastian hotel on Vail Mountain, where rooms cost more than $2,400 for multi-bedroom suites.
The family appear to have flown there on Air Force Two.
They were escorted to the resort by a motorcade of about a dozen vehicles, including 15 state and local law enforcement officers
SUMMER HOLIDAY ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD: AUGUST 2011

The Blue Heron Farm estate, where the Obama family are currently staying, rents for about $50,000 a week.
According to U.S. News and World Report, the Coast Guard is required to keep

Irene

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin’
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin’
Heard ten thousand whisperin’ and nobody listenin’
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin’
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley
And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall

quake day

as luck would have it, I spent the noon hour strolling around the Wolrd Trade Center takin photos, which is something i do every few months over the past ten years....here are some of the shots just an hour before the quake.

the quake

eerie similarities......picturesque blue skies, blazing sun, and thousands of people out in the streets in panic....i wish i could say it was surreal but it is becoming more commonplace....at least i am not alone, this time at the first sign of trouble.....ya know when the light fixtures were swaying and the venetian blinds were rattling and the floor was trembling.....the majority of my coworkers did in fact evacuate....not all, but most.....wish i could say it's over, but as we creep closer to September, and as the waves and waves of emotion come pouring back like they did yesterday, unfortunately i know this is just the beginning.

Honorable Eggroll hard at work

a collective cheer went up amongst the NY state taxpayers yesterday when Prof DenDen Nolan stated that due to the questionable racial overtones of this Blog, he no longer logs in from his computer at work ( school).....anything that gets even 1 teacher away from clowntime and back to the business at hand...ie teaching kids? how to read , write and shoot free throws is good news for the Empirs State....happ to do my part.

Death to Miami

enough is enough.......this guy isn't the only Booster that gave money, gifts and prostitutes to the Miami "student athletes"......he's just the only Booster that's talking.

this program will never learn, with scum like donna sha lala as their president they have that clintonesque ideal that rules are for everyone else embedded in their dna....who cares if they clean house and start acting like a University, they deserve the death penalty now so we, the innocent public, do not have to watch those putrid green and orange clad obamarites whooopin it up on the feild every saturday....if we want that nonsense we can just watch Killer Kelly and Notre Dame.

Army & Navy are the only two football teams worth supporting.......fuk air farce.

Presidential Duty ?

before taking his much needed vacation, spoonjiah took a slow ride through...IOWA ? ? in a million dollar secret service guarded Bus....Just a regular guy like Ken Kesey and the merry pranskters.....good thing there is nothing serious goin on in the world today.....never too soon to campaign for those swing votes.

PEOSTA, Iowa -- Seeking some help from rural America, President Hussein Obama on Tuesday implored Iowans to share ideas with him about how leaders can give an economic jolt to the nation's heartland. He promised better days in a time of relentless joblessness, saying, "We'll get through this moment of challenge."

meanwhile far away in another part of town.....Assad, the GREAT REFORMER; is slaughtering civilians for the six o'clock news and hunting down Ex-Patriots in foreign lands that dare speak out against the regime.....and the Black Haus said .................wait for it.....wait for it..........well absolutely nothing.

nobody knows the trouble Sambo seen

"Theres nothing wrong with our country.......theres something wrong with our politics"

This is not a blog joke....that is a direct quote from the President of the United States 8/11/11.

So the Man at the highest pinnacle in US Politics, The Commander in Chief, is trying to paint himself as an outsider ? that he alone from his distant perch can see what's wrong with washington, that if we only give him a chance and Elect him, he will BRING CHANGE ? was he reading from his 2008 election campaign pamphlets? does he not realize he is the President?

What did Nero do while Rome Burned ?

He didn't go to Fukin Dinner with Harvey Weinstein and raise money for his next campaign like spoonjiah did last night, first stopping to take a dig at the --------------------fill in the blanks......the Banks, the Rich, The Tea Party, Wall Streeters, are we missing anyone ?

somebody get this shine a Stradivarius....i'd rather he fiddled around like Nero, lord knows THOSE people have rhythm.

side note....during Ramadam, when moslems do not wear jewelry, the blackhaus said the President was not wearing his wedding ring because it was in for repairs....apparently his watch was too......go wash yer feet.

a tale of two assads

i admit it , i am confused.
remember back around St Patricks day....when the White House said Khadaffy would be out of office in 72 hours, i also remember Hillarry lecturing the foreign press with regards to a rumored crackdown in hated Syria...oddly Hilary came to their defenses and referred to Assad as a "GREAT REFORMER" and now this ? what gives?

Obama administration is planning to explicitly call for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down in coming days as violence increases and regime continues brutal crackdown on civilian protesters

Triple AAA no more

The United States has lost its sterling credit rating. Credit rating agency Standard & Poor's on Friday lowered the nation's AAA rating for the first time since granting it in 1917. The move came less than a week after a gridlocked Congress finally agreed to spending cuts that would reduce the debt by more than $2 trillion -- a tumultuous process that contributed to convulsions in financial markets. The promised cuts were not enough to satisfy S&P. The drop in the rating by one notch to AA-plus was telegraphed as a possibility back in April. The three main credit agencies, which also include Moody's Investor Service and Fitch, had warned during the budget fight that if Congress did not cut spending far enough, the country faced a downgrade. Moody's said it was keeping its AAA rating on the nation's debt, but that it might still lower it. Speaker John Boehner issued a statement saying that the downgrade is "the latest consequence of overspending by Washington." O

Hey Wang...you shoulda told em you were Jewish.

Voters nix new Islanders arena
By SELIM ALGAR

Tax-sick Nassau County residents iced a controversial plan to borrow $400 million for a new New York Islanders arena yesterday, in a vote marked by low turnout and high emotion.

County Executive Edward Mangano conceded defeat at 11:40 p.m., with 823 of 1,160 precincts reporting 60,228 votes against the plan and 44,839 in favor.

"Remember, this is not an ending, this is a beginning," he said. "We will continue to move ahead to Quebec or Hamilton or Oshkosh ."

Still, the rejection makes it likely that the struggling franchise will skate out of the Nassau Coliseum when its lease expires in 2015.

Islanders owner Charles Wang said, "I have to tell you, I'm disappointed. To put it bluntly, I'm heartbroken, " but in an obvious attempt to court the many jewish voters on lone Gisland he began qouting the old testement "In the book of Ruth, Naomi tried to get Ruth to go back to her own people 3 times before Ruth became a part of the Hebrew people, and so as moykyem was to abigail, we shall perhaps request a new vote, on a brighter day, have a few blintzes and see what Canada has to offer" In retrospect , Rodney dangerfield was wrong, I shoulda have told them I was Jewsish.

Opponents asserted that Mangano and Wang had been working with indefensibly rosy numbers when they projected 3,000 new jobs and a new state of the arts Hooters restuarant in the parking lot if the project were built.

Voters said they were more concerned with fiscal responsibility than allegiance to Long Island's only professional sports franchise. although most of the african-americans voters admitted they just hate hockey.

"A new arena sounds nice, but at some point, you have to say ...Hey ! the islanders fukin suck and be responsible as a citizen and say no."

With the county facing a gaping $100 million budget deficit for 2011 and some of the country's highest property taxes, residents suggested that this is no time for ice skating frogs and russians.

"We are in enough trouble already," said Anne Pierce, 39, of Garden City. "This is just too big, I'm a country doctor Jim"

Mangano said that the new arena would have cost individual taxpayers $4 dollars annually over the next 30 years, while a state fiscal watchdog group, the Nassau Interim Finance Authority, put that figure at $60,000 dollars.

The authority added that the project -- which would have included a minor-league baseball park -- would have cost $800 million, with interest included.

Braving thunderstorms and high winds, Islander fans gathered in the parking lot of the long shuttered Doctor G's , where soo many stanley cup parades were held, last night to unite for their endangered squad.

Scores of heartbroken Islander fans commiserated in the parking lot after the vote was announced,

"People are going to regret this," said teary-eyed Paul Molloy, saying higher taxes would have been a small price to pay to keep the team.

"People spend 5,000 bucks on going to Starbucks a few times. We're losing our team."

His brother Pat Molloy of Belford, NJ tried to see the silver lining, "The Red Bank Armory is pretty nice and is close to my house, maybe Mr. Wang will move the Team to NJ"

The Players on the Islanders held their own Vote Results party in a Strip Club on the nerby civilization island of Manhattan. " Free at Last, Free at Last, just like George Jefferson when he moved away from Archie Bunker" Team GM garth Snow quipped while slipping a flier for the new arena into the waistband of a curvy stripper.

more to follow.........Sweater Nite 14 is lookin brighter already.

Haskell Prognostication

i have had such bad luck this year with the equines that i am breakin the mold, goin against the grain and lets see what happens.

It pains me soo to not plunk down a boatload of cash on the Baffert/Garcia combo and COIL......Bullett Bob OWNS Monmouth park and will likely win an unprecedented 6th Haskell Today.and this is the Son of Point given, one of my all time favorites...a layup right?...no bet

Shackleford
seems to know when i bet on him and when i don't.....unfortunately for me he saves his best for the days i steer my coin elsewhere...no bet

Ruler on ice....i was truly sleepwalking on Belmont Day.....all the money i put on Kelly Breen and POF in the derby was absent at belmont and i walked away empty handed....no bet.

which Brings us to Pants on Fire....i do like this horse, he will probably win, a feel good local story for KB and the Halls if either POF or Ruler win....no bet.

Concealed Identity....get out your pens and strike a line through this Bum of a Horse, Because I am divin into the deep end with this longshot.....Decarlo Knows Monmouth well....CI beat Ruler on Ice in May and challenged POF here at Monmouth last month, and his Owner......Mr. Morris Bailey ; owns Monmouth Park....not like Baffert....Mr Bailey literally owns this track, he was awarded the contract by the NJSEA and Gov Christie......if he doesn't win, I demand an inquiry...

alas you have my train of thought at yer disposal, do with it as you may......but keep in mind I also tend to drink heavily at the track and tend to change my bet on the long lonely walk to the wagerin window.....so if Concealed Identity does in fact win and pays a handsome price....it's a safe bet that I DID NOT have him.

No Room at the Inn

oiy vey....not that i have any intention of being in Manhattan on September 11th or of visiting the Memorial anytime soon, but isn't nice to know that if i had a yearning to visit on the tenth anniversay, if for theraputic reasons any one of the "survivors" wanted to return to the site and pay respects to a fallen friend, comrade, co-worker at the memorial, the answer is a resounding "FUCK YOU"......nice country....never forget, never forget...

9/11 Memorial snubs survivors

Survivors who fled the burning Twin Towers are not invited to the 10th-anniversary remembrance of the terror attacks because there's no room at the new 9/11 Memorial, it was announced yesterday.

Members of the WTC Survivors' Network -- who had attended the somber services at Ground Zero every year -- asked to be invited to the observance at the memorial but were turned down.

"Space constraints on the memorial plaza will limit the attendees to victims' families," a spokesman for Mayor Bloomberg said. "But they can of course write a check if they wish to contribute to the memorial or have some hot Chocolate and enjoy Central park" , "it's a snow day people, enjoy it".

end of an era (parseghian)

so i am sittin in the Heidelberg Tavern, swashin down a mug of Radderberger in the tiny enclave of new jersey known as the mile squared, and word begins to spread like a cancerous wildfire that the legendary CHAR House we lovingly call Arthurs Tavern was on life support....not expected to live to see the fireworks on the 4th....THIS CANT BE....and so without a moment to spare, save 2 more reddebergers and a quick stop with the nazi in the 8th street Tavern we hightailed it over to Arthurs for the wake....one last delicous serving of Shrimp, Garlic Bread, Hot Peppers , Cole Slaw and SCHTEAK ! ! ! if this grand old dame shutters her doors this weekend, the world will be a sadder place.......happy to be there one last time, wishing only we had time to do her justice, but for the record, the final attendance was higgins, hoffman, molloy, O'Dowd and Pazarecki.......sleep easy baby, theres nothin worth stealin in here (B.Dylan)

the day the winds of change did shift

ah poor Jim Tressel....he was riding high for a long time ..and i hated him and THE Ohio State University.....and then came labor Day weekend 2009....and they hosted NAVY...a game I was supposed to be at inside the bIG HOrshoe of Colombus Ohio ( except eggrollvika backed out at tyhe last minute.......NAVY gave em a run for the money, but that's not the story......

The story is that Coach Tressel ....for the first and only time in Ohios State History...allowed the visiting team to take the field simultaneously with the Buckeyes.....and Ohio State players carried American Flags to honot their visitors........

That is when i turned my hatred into admiration, and thus became both a Tressel and a Buckeye fan ...kinda........I rooted for them against Maze N Blue and most of the other Little Ten schools ( Never against Penn St, The Illini or NWestern...)

and that is the only explanation for why a Coach who could do NO WRONG in Columbus, had to resign the other day......the Tomcat Curse......if I like you or root for you or stop hatin ya........yer doomed...

"...gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime....let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation's gratitude,--the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan." --General John Logan, General Order No. 11, 5 May 1868

Matteau Matteau

Matteau Matteau

It was the Friday Night of Memorial day weekend, the City was electric and pensive, nerves were on end. I was scared out of my boots as I rode the subway up to Mustang Sallys, our traditional pregame watering hole in the spring of 1994…….I couldn't even eat…..just stood by the door with Donn and Craig , washing down Budweiser beer like it was going out of style...Penn station was abuzz with Commuters getting away for the weekend, upstairs in the Worlds Most famous Arena the Broadway Blueshirts were about to take the ice for a critical game 7 of the Eastern Conf Finals against the hated NJ devils……..I settled into my seat in section 419, row f , put two full buckets of said Budweiser under my aisle seat, rose for Mr Ammorante and the singing of our National Anthem…..and I remember thinking to myself, for the rest of my life, whatever happens tonight, will come flooding back to me every Friday of Memorial Day weekend …..they have to win……….first period was a scoreless draw…..more Budweiser beer…….getting more nervous as the night wears on, which of course leads to faster drinking…….out to the rotunda between periods……staring at the Post office…….please God……..midway through the deuce…….Brian leetch skates in from the circle……broduer defending 7th ave…….Leetchie pulls a spin-o-rama----lets go with a bullet….the light goes on……….the Garden erupts……YES !!!!!................the period ends…….more beer….back to the rotunda……20 minutes from the finals…..the City knows it…….people are now gathering on the Post Office stairs across the street…….people without tickets are coming to the garden area to share in the celebration….I had chills on my neck……ran into Kenny Coco…….the last thing he says to me is that when we hold on to win 1-0 , Richter will tie the record for most shutouts in the postseason……..Richter……The Rock of Gibraltar….he was going to single-handedly win this thing…….very nervous to start the 3rd period…..it only gets worse….every shift….every dump in…..every whistle…..the crowd is bezerk……watching the clock….praying for an insurance goal…….10 minutes……..8 minutes…..5 minutes……we are soo close……..2 minutes……the place is on its feet……..can't hear the whistle….can't hear yourself think……high fives all around……"THIS IS THE LAST MINUTE TO PLAY IN THE PERIOD"…….BEDLAM……….goosebumps….chills…..sweating……nervous………30 seconds………broduer to the bench……they dump in…..one last push…….i'm squinting toward the 7th ave net from my 8th avenue seats……..10 seconds……loose puck…mad scramble…..cant follow the puck……the devils are jumping up and down….why?....the light is on….7 seconds….tie game……..

It was like being kicked in the stomach……..stunned silence………I left my seat and walked to the rotunda before they had the faceoff……..stood starring at the post office………TV Crews with live reporters waiting on 8th ave for the delighted faithful to exit the building…..word spreads that they tied the game….the lights for the cameras start getting turned off…..we are going to OT……..a sad sickness and eerie silence hovers in the building……we are never going to win this damn cup….

Me , Donn and Craig barely said a word to each other during intermission……it was like Clavins up there……somebody must have died……we retook our seats…..I could not concentrate…..the first ot was a blur……..I watched the red light behind richter fully expecting to see it go on…….everytime they came into our zone I was sure the game would end……….midway through the period , the faithful woke up………Lets Go Rangers was back……we were exhausted and angry…….but we could not score…….back to the rotunda…..back to the window….

Back to our seats…….double OT …….wornout….feel like I went 10 rounds with Tyson….not sure how much more of this I can take……Devils are shooting at 7th ave…….blushirts are attacking our 8th ave net…..we get a chance, they get a chance…..back and forth and back and forth……3 minutes in.. the puck dances through our crease….it's going in ……..out of nowhere comes leetch……he swats it away…it hits a devil and is heading back towards the empty net….where is richter?.......still not sure what happened….to this day I think it hit the post….somehow the light did not go on……somehow the puck did not go in…I can't take this………..we dump in….they dump out….BUT NO …..we keep in and redirect around the net……not sure who is chasing the puck, watching Tikanen sneak in from the point for a pass……someone is emerging from the boards behind the net with the puck….a devil is hounding him……pass it to TIK……..NO…..he attempts to stuff it in ……YES !!!!!!!!...

MATTEAU MATTEAU………..STEPHANE MATTEAU…………..and the Rangers have one more hill to climb and it's Mount Vancouver……the Rangers are going to the finals………..the rest is beautiful history……..

As for me……we stayed and watched the trophy presentation…….the Garden was electric again….like New years eve……back to Mustang Sally's….Met Kevo there....a cab home…..cars honking horns on the Brooklyn Bridge…….went to PJ's Pub……was still there at 4:00 a.m. ……….people walking up and down 5th ave with beers, stopping traffic…..it was crazy………..

NOPE…..I will never ever allow the Friday of memorial day weekend to pass without reflection on that night….
