I only did halfway, tomorrow will Be Sunday; born a rainy Saturday “ (Garcia)
More sad news out of Met land and a bitter reminder that our time is fleeting.....Dementia, Alzheimer’s and a stroke are the 3 things that scare me the most....not even the Great Tom Seaver is immune......the legend, the Franchise...has retired from public life as a result of Dementia....just a few short months shy of the honoring of the 1969 Mets 50th Anniversary.....how empty and hollow that celebration will be without TomTerrific .....my namesake, my boyhood idol and hero...he was an all around gentleman and good citizen....run out of town by 2 scumbags.....m Donald grant and dick young ( that filthy douche reporter who trashed Seaver to gain favors from Mets management)....and all these years later the met faithful are still begging for a statue ....maybe now the wilponzis will finally concede.................8 million memories of Tom Terrific , today I will share a funny one.....on or about August 3rd 1985 I was on weekend leave from the Great Lakes naval station and was enjoying a few cold beeeeers on Chicago’s north side with Donnie Hoff, Steve Collins and Eddie G...it was a Sunday afternoon and although the Mets were playing the cubs in wrigley we did not go ( we had been there the day prior) nope...we found a bar to watch the Yankees game as they honored their longtime shortstop and announcer o on Phil Rizzutto Day.....luckily they were playing the White Sox and the game would be televised in Chicago ( long before espn and the mlb network, you couldn’t always watch whatever game you wanted).....oh , but we weren’t tuning in to see the Yankees....no sir ....as luck would have it......George Thomas Seaver took his 299 wins to the mound that day and absolutely silenced the Yankees bats before a sold out crowd and a multitude of METSIE jerseys in yankee stadium....we roared and cheered our approval in a Windy City gin mill in the most surreal surrounding ever.......the bartenders seemed perplexed why a group of New Yorkers were feverishly pulling for the Chisox..... Tom Terrrific got # 300 that day and we got another memory for a lifetime.....safe travels Mr. Seaver, a scary road ahead, we wish you well.....
