hockey revisited

leave it to the NHL to over complicate everything...….they have decided to go straight to the playoffs but because the Blackhawks, Canadiens and Rangers were all OUT of the playoffs on the final day they have decide to expand the playoffs to 24 teams ( because to be honest, nobody gives a shit about the rest of the league) ...…...the top 4 teams in each conf will play a round robin tournament against each other in order to get back in shape and reseed...…...the next 8 teams in each conf will play a best of 5 series to advance to the traditional playoffs.....strange yes.....but now here's the tricky part...….the #12 team in the conf would normally miss the playoffs and be eligible for the Draft Lottery.....maybe that's what they would prefer too......so the league has set up a potential 3 rounds of weighted lottery balls to determine the draft order to include the teams that are not in the top 24 and the teams that loose in the first round........sooooo….potentially a team like the Penguins.....#5 in the conference ( pretty good team) could get knocked out in the elimination round ( after a 3 month hiatus anything is probable let alone possible) and end up with the #1 pick in the draft.... …..the whole idea of the lottery was to prevent teams from tanking at the end.....well since they are not playing the last 20 games of the regular season that point is moot......why not just set the draft order based on the standings of March 12th in reverse order....let the worst teams pick first , move the draft up to next week and get some attention from the sports starved populace ?  I guess that would make too much sense...
