it's the ferocious STING of the Yella jackets of course..( 5-0 vs the spread)...Coach Johnson has the drones swarming.......he is quietly dispelling the rumor that he cannot coach an effective passing game........as he said , and I have repeated time and time again , ad nauseum , the reason they did not throw more often at the Naval Academy was twofold......1st and foremost , when your gameplan is clock management and ball control it is actually a disservice to your defense if your offense scores too quickly .....The defenses at Navy were undersized , they could not hang with the ND's of the world for 4 quarters....UNLESS....their offense was capable of 7, 8, 9 or even 10 minutes drives........if you can limit the amount of time your defense is on the field, you also limit the oppurtunities for your weakness to be exposed......when Navy did go to the passing game they were extremely effective....in part because the opposing defense was lulled into an option coma.
Secondly.....the passing game requires timing , and timing comes from practice , and practice? well at the US Naval Academy , although important; Football practice is at the bottom of the "to do" list.......these kids are learning Nuclear engineering and clever ways to infiltrate foreign soil and murder ruthless despots.....these are the guys that will invent the next wave of warfare that will defend and save this country for generations to come......football is a saturday afternoon leisure activity to take the mind off the problems of the world at hand....
At Georgia Tech ? a fine engineering school in its own rite, but those nerds aren't suting up on a saturnalian Saturday.....GA Tech is a football factory.....the kids who are on a gridiron scholarship are there to win games , not wars.....just like almost every other big time program in the Nation......the motto is "stay out of jail to stay on the field"........and Coach Johnson , the finest offensive mind in the NCAA today , will use the tools he is given.......we are right on time for the National Championship game Next year......might even crack the BCS party this year to get our toes wet....
around the rest of the NCAA yesterday.....The MIDS had a big win at Air Farce and are on track for an unprecedented 14th straight win agaisnt the other service Academies and the 7th straight winning of the CIC Trophy......Coach Ken is carving his own niche with this team....I like him already.....he has Coach J hutzpa and is not afrid of the unconvential.....bring on the Pitt Panthers.
The IRISH are slowly but surely erasing the bitter taste of last year.......after the SD State opener , I thought we were in for a long year , but I take my hat off to Clausen and I am very impressed with the passion of the defense.....let's go into tarheel country and show that we can win on the road......big game next week.
WHOOOOAAAA Nittany ........how about Joe Pa and the Lions , a win is a win is a win , especially in the lil Ten.....6-0 with Ohio St and Whisky on the horizon...i geuss the calls for MR Paternos head 3 years ago were a bit premature.
and Miami lost.......spoon-jiah.....I wonder whatever happened to that shirt I bought in Nairobi, Kenya.......it had a big elefante on it with the traditonal African'T greeting "Jambaya"........I think i lost that bad boy during the Pascagoula Miss days ...circa 1988.
