Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street

A gentle Irishman, mighty odd ( Finnegans wake-Irish Classic)

I was lucky enough in the early 90's to work with a friend who had a connection with Exxon Mobil.....Exxon was one of the primary radio sponsors of NY Giants Football.....well every Monday WOR Radio would host a luncheon for their sponsors at the Hilton Towers in Midtown....and as luck would have it i got to go 2 or 3 times one season.......at each luncheon a member of the team or coaching staff would be the guest and they would mingle and talk to the crowd ( maybe only 5 or 6 tables of 10 people)....usually we would gravitate towards Jim Gordon and just listen to his stories...one of kind....Bob Poppa, Carl Banks etc etc.....really nice guys......we met Strahan his Rookie season, he was very engaging.

On one particular Monday Dan Reeves was the guest of honor and i found myself in a circle of about 5 or 6 people listening to the coach talk Giants football....suddenly there was a break in the conversation and i had to speak up......i didn't ask a question per se, but i mentioned to the coach that I had just seen a documentary about the ice bowl and well...he took it from there......he talked about how cold it was .....the slipping and sliding on the frozen turf...how hard it was to catch the football,,,and then he stopped and smiled.....he mentioned how Bart Starr was known around the globe and in every household in America because of that QB sneak......he paused...and then reminded the 2 or 3 of us still in the conversation circle that the Cowboys had taken the lead in the 4th qtr of that game on a Halfback Option from midfield.....a pitch left , and then the halfback threw a strike to a wide open receiver and a 50 yd touchdown..in 16 below freezing wind on a patch of frozen tundra........the halfback of course was DAN Reeves......and who knows....if the Packers don't score on the final play; perhaps that Dan Reeves TD would be the most viewed highlight in NFL history.......by now cocktail hour was ending and we had to take our seats....i shook the Coachs' massive hand and wished him well.....he was a true gentlemen and i respected him greatly from that day forward and always thought of what might have been whenever his name came up.

Coach Reeves passed away on New Years and the young age of 77........Rest in Peace Coach.
